The blogging hiatus is close to an end. Really.

I'm forever apologizing for the lack of blog activity.  Sorry.  I know.

I owe my vast and loyal readership (Hi Mom!) an explantion.  Behind the scenes here at Myrmecos Industries we are 90% done with a significant overhaul of the ant photo collection.  Essentially, the content of myrmecos.net is moving to the galleries at www.alexanderwild.com, with a significant restructuring of the latter to accomodate an orders-of-magnitude increase in imagery.

The process involves a lot of time-intensive tasks like captioning and keywording, as well as retouching older photos and adding in completely new series.  I haven't got much energy left over for blogging, and especially not with all the house-related projects going on concurrently.

The old site (myrmecos) will remain online, but in archival form only.  In the future all new content will go to alexanderwild.com.

I can tell you this, though: the new combination looks fantastic.  Really, really, really great.  The search function is spectacular, the galleries are gorgeous, and navigating among the images is much easier than it was at the old place.

We'll be ready to release the new galleries in about a week.  Stay tuned.

Dorylus helvolus, KZN, South Africa Last night the internet arrived at our new house. I've celebrated the occasion by tackling the backlog of photo uploads. Over at myrmecos.net the South Africa photos are starting to go up. The first batch covers Dorylus helvolus, a subterranean predatory ant…
Tonight's mystery is a straight-up Name That Bug: From central Florida, the mystery insect One point for picking the order, two points for family, five points for genus, and five points for species. [added in edit- you've got to be first in any one category]. And guess what? We've finally decided…
Arachnids (you know, spiders and mites and things) never had much of a presence in my photo galleries.  While I could chalk their absence up to an obsessive focus on formicids, the reality is that I'm mildly arachnophobic.  Photographing spiders makes me squirm, so I don't do it very often. Oddly…

No explanation needed. We all know the new website will be great....XXXMom

Don't worry, Ant. I'll announce the new release at your forum once it's up.

I didn't mention this, but most of the new images and galleries can already be accessed through the search box on the home page of alexanderwild.com, even though they aren't publicly linked anywhere. So if you go search for, say, "Forelius", you'll be able to get a little preview.

Hey man... I am excited about your announcement! I can't wait to see the new upgrade of your website! Hurray!

"Hi:

Two things

1) Iâd like your permission to (re)print your article on Flight of the conchords

for our website

2) I was hoping we could use your âscribingâ talent for our website.

The Best Shows Youre Not Watching (dot) com [all one word]

âThe Clone Warsâ is one of our featured shows. Weâre hoping to round up a few people who can occasionally contribute perspective (via an article/blog) on the shows â maybe a recent episode, future direction, plot shortcomings etc.

Whatâs in it for you?

Primarily a larger audience back channeled to your blog. We donât pay but the site has a lot of promise and we're pretty excited about getting it off the ground. Let me know what you think.

Thanks
