It's Memorial Day weekend, and I won't be blogging over it, as I'm going to be enjoying my long weekend! (And I hope you are, too.) But I'd like to leave you with some reflections on our history of Space Exploration in this country. (This was originally posted last year.)

OMG i remember that ..it was horrible ..i was just old enough to remember when both Ham and Laika (the animals)were shot into space and i prayed for them both ..you can't imagine the complete shock i felt at the 1st human deaths from the USA space program ...there was a sort of unstated national idea that God was on our side (and of course i was only about 12 at the time)
Thanks for remembering this, John. This day always gets lost since Challenger (anniversary tomorrow). In a scientific sense, these guys were the ultimate experimentalists and should always be remembered for their bravery and dedication. Great picture as well.
