As you probably noticed, I didn't manage a post yesterday. Nor did I manage one today, other than this. That's because I was busy preparing for QEDCon, where I will be on a panel and giving a talk, and, of course, putting together my talk. As I write this, I'm horrendously jet lagged; so I probably couldn't write much that's coherent anyway. Consequently, there likely won't be any new posts until next week.
I will take a moment, however, to mention that there will be significant changes to this blog in the near future. It's a process that will likely take a couple of weeks, and I'll update you as I go along. I've told a handful of my readers what the change will be and why it's necessary, and others might have guessed. Fear not, though. I'll update you as I go along, and all will be clear soon. I've been doing this blog for nearly 13 years. It's such a part of my life that I can't imagine not doing it any more. So I will continue.

No worries, oh glorious box of lights. Times may be tough without our regular fix of Insolence, but I'm sure we'll survive.
I hope you recover from the jetlag soon, those things can be awful. And of course have fun the next few days! :)
That's good news. I enjoy this blog so much, it's one of the first things I read in the morning.
Have a good conference, a good weekend, and safe flight home!
Welcome to England Mr Box of Blinky Lights. Hopefully the changes aren't too drastic!

MJD says,
The Nobel Prize for Medicine was given to scientists studying circadian rhythms?
In an article from treehugger (October 2017) titled, Nobel Prize for Medicine goes to scientists studying circadian rhythms, author Lloyd Alter writes, "Circadian rhythms have never got the respect they deserve from lighting designers, architects or engineers, often thought of as pseudoscience. But over last few years, they have been getting more attention."

Have fun!
Since we are continually fighting the battle against confirmation bias and post hoc reasoning, I thought this article on common superstitions might be of interest, especially today!

Extemporaneity, after all, is the soul of public speaking.
I predict you will convert to an https website with an invalid https certificate or implementing a security protocol that is not supported by the Safari browser on the iBook. Either way, I won't be able to see you website anymore and I will miss it. For a little while.
Hmm.

Extemporaneity
Is that the same as "drinking beer and ranting"? Asking for a friend.
Enjoy - I've been pleasantly surprised by the difference between Manchester c. 1978 and Manchester c. 2017.

MJD say,
Unfortunately, I'm not in your inner circle of "readers" but I'm anticipating that the forced changes are:
1) The Orac nym is no longer acceptable;
2) auto-moderation is no longer acceptable;
3) the use of the F-word is no longer acceptable; and
4) based on ambiguity, the word "anti-vaccine" is no longer acceptable language from the moderator.
I'd be thrilled with at least one of these coming to fruition.
Then you will be disappointed.
“Orac auto-moderates fucking anti-vaccine loons.”
4 out of 4, in 5 words, and in order. They almost write themselves.

I thought something was up when the blog got a new favicon a couple of days ago....
Stay safe in your travels, and I hope everything goes well!

Hey, did you see this! https://risk-monger.com/2017/10/13/greed-lies-and-glyphosate-the-portie….
Not on this subject but answers how this whole glyphosate BS started.
