Monitoring things from the Amazing Meeting 8...

My wife and I are here at TAM8, and so far things have been a blast. The Science-Based Medicine Workshops yesterday went quite well, and I'm told that my talk actually wasn't half-bad. In the meantime, after the serious misstep of Pepsigeddon, which has claimed some of my fellow ScienceBloggers, ScienceBlogs finally did the right thing and got rid of the PepsiCo blog. All is well. Well, not quite, but at least all doesn't suck the way it did for a couple of days.

In the meantime, there is the Amazing Meeting. I've been informed that I actually have fans. I know, I know, it's really hard to believe. I still have trouble believing it even after five years. Even more odd, these fans want a meetup. Or at least some of them do. So, I'll tell you what. We'll try to do something early this evening or tomorrow sometime if sufficient interest is shown. Either come up to me at the meeting, drop me an e-mail, or leave a comment here, and I'll leave an announcement on my Twitter account (@oracknows) later today. My wife also informs me that she's interested in meeting skeptical nurses.

Off to the meeting. If there's wifi (there wasn't yesterday other than the ridiculously expensive by the hour wifi, but the meeting hadn't started yet), I may even drop a blog post or two. If not, I'll actually take the day off. Shocking, I know, but I do do it from time to time.

More like this

Like P.Z., I've been busy, busy, busy. TAM is a whirlwind of activity. Yesterday morning, I did my talk for the Science-Based Medicine workshop. Turnout was damned near standing room only, which makes me ask: Why would so many people be interested in hearing five somewhat geeky doctors pontificate…
I'm back from the Penn & Teller Show at the Rio. It was, as usual, highly entertaining. I haven't seen P&T since sometime in the late 1990s in Chicago, but they're just as good as I remember them. Next issue: Shy and retiring putz that I am, it never occurred to me that any of my readers…
I forgot to mention yesterday (although I did on Twitter) that I'm currently in Denver, where I will be attending the 100th Annual Meeting of the American Association for Cancer Research (AACR), as I do almost every year at this time. I hope to see, as Isis would put it, some hot, hot science over…
I demand the sum of.....three MILLION visits! Muhahahahahaha! Yes, I know I did that bit before--twice, even!---but I liked it so much that I wanted to do it again, at least until my readers run screaming away, annoyed that Orac, of all people, would recycle the same old joke over and over. The…

You have groupies? Awesome. Do they have a name, like "The Insolents" or something?

I'm pouting because I'm not there. Next year.

"The Insolents"! I like that.

I heard via twitter that your presentation was excellent. Would it make a blog post?

after the serious misstep of Pepsigeddon, which has claimed some of my fellow ScienceBloggers,

Still peddling this non-sequitur, eh Orac? How sad!

Also down for Saturday!

I blow strawberries at your general direction!

Wish I was there. A fan.

Please ask your wife to consider a blog for skeptical nurses. I feel like I am the only one sometimes, only able to express my atheism and belief in evidence based medicine to a very few. And those few are a couple of doctors. Nurses seem to be very susceptible to irrational beliefs in pseudo-medicine.

I'm a fan, Orac. If one can be a fan of a box of blinking lights. Your snark is an inspiration to us all.
