Conscientious apathetic objection

Apparently, among some circles today is some sort of holiday. Its virus has apparently infected some of my fellow ScienceBloggers.

I do not understand this holiday.

I never really have. I tend to doubt that I ever will.

Consequently, there'll be no "arrrrr" here today, nor, most probably, on any future September 19. Consider me a conscientious apathetic objector to the whole weird thing. Either that, or a buzz killer.

Longtime readers of this blog may have noticed that, since my move to ScienceBlogs six weeks ago, I haven't written nearly as much about evolution or intelligent design as I used to on the old blog.. There are probably at least several reasons for this. For one thing, lots of other topics have…
Today is the fifth anniversary of September 11. There will be a whole lot of verbiage put forth into the blogosphere, spanning the gauntlet from blaming all Muslims for the attack, to blaming America for bringing it upon itself, to the idiotic 9/11 conspiracy mongers who will claim that George Bush…
There are some days when I just don't feel like posting the usual stuff, and September 11 is just one of those days. So today there'll be no woo-bashing, no evisceration of postmodernist nonsense, no sarcastic assaults on antivaccinationists. In a more serious vein, there won't be any analyses of…
Fridays are usually a bad time for blogging for me, but it's a choice, not due to any circumstances. Usually, on Friday nights, I consciously make an effort to stay away from the computer and the blog. Frequently, I'm tired, and not infrequently I'll crash on the couch, only to wake up after…

We'll skittle ye to the brisket!

I did some volunteer work at the local library a couple years ago. They had a special program on pirates for kids on this holiday.

So, they took the kids on a tour and introduced me. The tourmeister asked "Can these children ask you for help finding books?" I replied "AAARRR THEY CAN!" Some of them started crying, others ran away (a few have yet to be found).

I think, if you are going to celebrate this holiday- you need to be a bit sensitive about it.

Well, Instead one could look to the more serious presidential (don't throw tomatoes) proclamation to show respect on POW/MIA recognition day!! (Also today!)

What be better than Talk Like A Pirate Day? Nothing! Except maybe a fresh cabin boy. Arghhh. Orac, me thinks yer hearrrt be in the wrong place.
