Yankees lose, Indians win, and Orac is well-pleased

The game ended too late last night, and I was too tired to do a quick celebratory post, but better late than never.

In case you were wondering, Orac is pleased. Not as pleased as he would have been if it had been the Tigers who beat the Yankees, but pleased enough.

Yikes! In my grant writing frenzy the last few days, this could easily have been me: Jasmine Willis, 17, developed a fever and began hyperventilating after drinking seven double espressos while working at her family's sandwich shop. The student, of Stanley, County Durham, was taken to the…
In case anyone's interested, the reason that there was no post today is because we had a rather massive windstorm here in the Detroit area that left 800,000 without power. Unfortunately, that number included my wife and me. I valiantly tried to take care of my blogging addiction last night, as the…
Happy Blogiversary to us. Yes, it's our fourth Blogiversary, meaning Effect Measure has lasted longer than many marriages. Our first post was on November 25, 2004 at our old site over at Blogger. We moved here to Scienceblogs on June 9, 2006. According to Sitemeter, we've had over 1,650,000 unique…
Just in case anyone was wondering, the Seed techie was doing some work on the servers last night, and something went awry. The result was the inability to comment on many blogs and the inability of bloggers to post (or even see any of their posts in the editing panel). Things are fixed now, I can…

Now that Boston has won a recent World Series, Cleveland has the longest dry spell (last Series won in 1948).

Except for the Chicago Cubs (1908).

Fair enough, Cleveland brought the better team to the series. Its a funny kind of hate though. Jesus obviously hates the Yankees so much he got them into the playoffs thirteen years running.

Here's a quick question for you: Out of last years playoff teams only one made it the playoffs again this year, which one? (hint: the answer's in the first paragraph above)

Though I guess now I'll have to root for the Indians also - *anyone* but Boston!

I saw the Indians play a couple of times when I was in med school there. Now, I'm a Mariners fan. And, as they say, a fan of whatever team happens to be playing the Yankees.

Jesus obviously hates the Yankees so much he got them into the playoffs thirteen years running.

Ah, yes, but apparently since 2000 Jesus has clearly abandoned them. Indeed, a measure of His hatred for the Yankees is that He let them make it to the playoffs each year since then, only to deny them the ultimate prize that they consider due them. Indeed, the last three or four years were particularly exquisite torture. You had the flameout, with Boston coming back from a 3-0 deficit to sweep the Yankees in four games to go to the World Series. You have the Tigers and now the Indians knocking them out in the first round. Personally, I think that Jesus is being very cruel here, to let the Yankees think they have a chance and then send them home to golf in the ALDS series.

s a Bostonian, I must say- My Sox are whip the pants off of those Cleveland Indians, wicked hard.

We'll see about that. Both teams finished with the same record. Both teams are very, very good. I doubt either will "whip the pants" off the other. I expect a close, hard-fought series--with the Indians ultimately coming out on top, of course!

I happened to be in Chicago this w/e when the Cubs lost. The talk on the radio after the game was typical, being a fan of many a losing team myself. The interesting thing was that many of the announcers were turning their attention to the Cleveland Indians and saying things like. "Since the cubs are out of it lets root for the Indians, who are also long-over due."

GO TRIBE!!

Wait wait wait wait wait...
The Indians won the playoff? Not the Series, they and the Yankees are both AL.
Haven't followed baseball in 15 years, not since moving to Europe. But I lived in Cleveland in the 80s and I'd be very glad to hear that they are finally a good team. Especially since I believe Cleveland amassed a 3rd world country's worth of debt to build their new stadium.
