Whether they know it or not, Pharyngula and Mixing Memory may have provided our undead Führer with a catchy new theme song. Yes, I know. You might think the Hitler Zombie would be more partial to martial music with a Triumph des Willens sort of feel to it. The problem is, I don't think there is any such music that encompasses what our zombie is about as well as this does. The song is by Jonathan Coulton, and here he is doing a live folk version, complete with zombie audience participation:
Pretty catchy, eh?
Next, the audience will be heading out to label their political opponents Hitler. And, for completion's sake, here's the video with the recorded version (which is a bit more rock-oriented) featured by PZ and Chris:
And an anime-tinged version:
You'll be humming this song the rest of the day. I guarantee it.
I also just had a scary thought. Wouldn't it be cool to use footage from Triumph of the Will and set it to this song?
Heck, I bought it yesterday, along with a bunch more of Jonathan's pieces, including the wonderful Code Monkey. Can't believe I'd never heard of him before--I need to get out more, I guess.
Very silly. I liked the use of World of Warcraft in the second clip and the use of Hellsing in the third.
PZ's favourite Coulton tune is "I Crush Everything". ;)
(Mine is either "Future Soon" or "Mandelbrot Set".)
I'm a huge fan of Jonathan Coulton and serendipitously enough found this blog today. (Am now a huge fan of this blog.) If you think JC's silly on this subject, you should hear what he has to sing about the Mandelbrot set. Makes me wish I understood mathematics.
"you should hear what he has to sing about the Mandelbrot set"
It's one bad-ass f***ing fractal!
He's great. He allows anyone to remix or create a video from any of his songs. If you search on YouTube, you'll find a bunch of them. There's a couple for Mandelbrot Set that zoom in on the set--really cool!
He's going to be playing in the Philly area next weekend. I might just have to go out to see him live.
Seriously, Orac, if you want to make your own video using Triumph of the Will footage, do it! JC is pretty cool about all sorts of people making videos to his songs. From his FAQ:
The problem is, I simply don't have the skill set to make such a video. I'm sure I could fiddle around with iMovie and try to figure it out, but it would probably take more time to do it than I have. Also, I'm guessing the results would be pretty amateurish. Of course, I'd also have to get a hold of a copy of Triumph of the Will.
On the other hand, I will have a week and a half off around the holidays. ;-)
I had to link to this on my blog, too - I'd forgotten how awesome Coulton is since I started using a different computer (he was favorited on my old one). I could probably use Sims 2 to make an appropriate video, but I can think of a lot of other things demanding my attention until after the holidays. . .maybe when cabin fever sets in in February.
This guy rules!
My favorite so far is shop vac. A brilliant commentary on yuppy suburban life.
