One last word on comments

I forgot to mention in my comment policy yesterday a couple of things that people commenting here should know. Because of our comment spam problem, filters at most of the blogs at ScienceBlogs are set up such that putting more than two hyperlinks in a comment will automatically trigger a filter that will flag the comment for moderation, regardless of any other factors. In addition, there are also a variety of keywords and PERL regular expressions that I have added to the filters to catch additional spam that might occasionally catch legitimate comments unintentionally. I mention this now because while I am at this meeting the next three days it is quite likely that I will only be checking my blog once a day in the evening before I crash for the night. That means that during the next few days it will probably take me much longer than normal to approve any comments that get flagged for moderation by the spam filters. All other comments should appear immediately as usual.

So, if you post a comment and it doesn't show up right away, don't get disturbed or upset. It may take me up to a day to approve it. If it still isn't there 24 hours later, then worry.

A bit of blog housekeeping here... Normally, I find out about new comments on my blog through e-mail notifications that get sent to me shortly after you, the reader and commenter, post your comments. I find it much easier simply to scroll through the e-mails and see what the reaction is to my posts…
(Now that I look at the title, that sounds like an incredibly tepid harness-team command. "On, Moderation! Forward, with prudent speed!" I could clear that up by adding "Comment" in the middle, but I kind of like the image...) Over at Boing Boing, Teresa Nielsen Hayden has posted a long explanation…
Something came up that made me think it would be a good idea to mention a couple of features of the new WordPress template, just in case anyone missed them when I mentioned them before. I apologize to any who might find this repetitive, but there do appear to be some newbies here; so I think it's…
The last week or so, some of you may have noticed that you submit a comment and it doesn't show up in the comments thread right away. I'm assuming you get the message that the comment is being held for approval by the blog owner. At least I hope so. Please note: you are not being singled out for…

So no linking to my her*bal medds store with great offers on v1agr@ and traditional African A1DS cures then?

Cusses.

Help help, I'm being repressed...

So, if I have 6 hyperlinks to share, I should distribute them across 3 comments? :)

[looks around to see if there are any links lying around wanting to be shared here, finds none at the moment]
