Last night's blogmeet at Wirström's pub in Stockholm was a great success. Counting myself and Paddy K, we were nine guys eating and talking and drinking for hours. After a while we recruited three lovely daycare ladies who took our picture and entertained us.
Martin C had trouble finding our group at first because he was looking for a "great big cluster of geeks". I wonder if he meant that our cluster was too small or that we didn't look geeky enough. Our conversation was geeky though, covering endogenous retroviruses, Chinese Hamster Ovary, Trout Mask Replica, geothermal energy sources, Star Wars, Robert Broberg, internet dating, women, work, Monty Python, women, kids, women, the dot-com boom & crash, translation software, operating systems and women. Among other things. Did I mention females?

Brilliant idea! I'll be there.
I'm a regular Stockholm reader. I might be around on that date (I'm afraid someone else's prosthetic brain currently holds the secret of whether I'll be in Stockholm on that date or not).
I will try to pursuade the members of the board of the Vittfarne Association to put the next meeting of the board at Wirstroms since we already decided to have the next meeting the same date.
Hope to see you all!

Cool, I'll be there. Should we wear sunroses in our buttonholes or something?
I was thinking of buying a plush aardvark, but then I realised that I'm way bigger and more recognisable than one of those. So I'm gonna bring sticky labels and a felt-tip, so everyone can have their own tag, and then you'll all just have to pile onto the tall skinny guy with a crew cut and sideburns.
Sorry, but I live to far away from Stockholm... But maybe I do the same and have an achaeologygathering here in Skania? :D
I may be able to join, but know I won't be able to make it to 4:30. Here's hoping you'll be having more than one, which I guess isn't completely unrealistic...
I don't think anybody's going to be there at 16:30. 17:30 at earliest!
Great idea but bad timing (will be walking the streets of Beijing on the 27th) so youll have to make an irl pub da capo on a later date, preferably on a weekend.

Oh, typical. I land at Arlanda sometime close to midnight between Tuesday and Wednesday. So, as Magnus above said: great idea but bad timing... (There will be more blogmeets, I hope?)
I´ll be there in metaphysically shape. Hope to join you physically in Stockholm Blogmeet II!
I really wanted to come, but a crazy busy schedulte this week is preventing me. Hope you do it again.
Ah yes, the translation software, could you give the name again, I didn't manage to catch it in a form suitable for Googling?
It was fun to meet you all - thanks for setting this up, Martin and Paddy! I look forward to the next one!
Just guys showed up? I knew I should have hopped on a plane and stopped by... But what's the deal with your shirt Martin? It looks like one of those ones that changes colour with changes in body temperature or at different angles. Hmmm.
Kai: Trados.
Thinker: you bet!
Karen: we would have loved you to bits! That shirt is my wife's favourite. Come to tink of it, I wore it when we got married. It's cotton, but it's all shiny and looks really synthetic, shifting from pink to purple depending on the angle of lighting to fabric to observer.
A large collection of white males. OK, it's Sweden, that's why you're all white. Where are the babes? Does the Swedish Bikini Team have a blog?
OK, I found their web site. I don't think it would qualify as a "blog" though.
Our daycare ladies were very attractive, though one was American and one half-British. In the next room was a gang of 22-y-o French speakers including several heart-breakingly pretty Mediterranean brunettes.
Does anyone know what in what game the Swedish Bikini Team is a team? Horse polo? Curling? I'm not into the skinny, bleached, fake-tit thing myself.
Good to meet you all last night. For those who weren't there the evenings most illuminating discussion centered on the topic of the difference between a persons described self image and the reality of that image - all in the context of internet dating! Some very sound advice was provided by some of our group who had obviously carried out exhaustive field work on this topic (for instance, watch out for 80s hairstyles in online dating site personal photos).
I believe they made their first appearance in an American beer commercial a while back.
They don't look like huge beer drinkers. And it would surprise me if drinking a lot of American beer would be a good way to win their favour.
Here we go: Advertising Mascots - People
In U.S. commercial land, Swedish = blond.
Darn, I missed it. Send me a reminder next time, OK?
You'll want to keep a copy of this image around for when you're in a patriotic mood.
Mustafa, you're right, a patriotic mood must be treated without delay. Looking at that silly pic will put anyone in a cynical and misanthropic mood, which is preferable.
Martin, I'm with you! Down with patriots! May they all be wrapped up in their flags and suffocated without delay.
Couldn't help but notice that Paddy was wearing a green shirt - but not for a patriotic reasons, obviously! ;-)
No no, Paddy's just an echofascist.
Oh pooh, the TRADOS software only runs under the Evil OS. But now at least I know there are such programs.
