A New Addition to the Family

It's been slow around here this week, and it's all his fault.

Heather and I have been talking about getting a dog for some time now. I caught her on Petfinder every now and then, perusing the local shelters for dogs. I finally broke down the other day. We applied for a bull terrier mix named Lexie, spent an hour at the shelter that's an hour away, only to come home and find out that someone was "better suited" for her. So, we switched the name on the application for that cute little mutt.

He checked out at the vet the other day. At 16 weeks, he's 17.5 pounds, so we're thinking he'll reach 60 or 70 pounds full grown, but who knows? He might be horse sized one day. That'll make finding an apartment in the city... interesting.

Say hi to Oscar! He likes to chew my text on ecosystem management. Mmm... succession.

Another day, another DonorsChoose incentive claimed. I'm actually late in responding to this one-- I missed my self-imposed 24-hour deadline because we're visiting Kate's parents outside of Boston, but I'll try to make up for it with the answer. Anyway, Helen asks: How did Emmy become part of your…
It's been a couple of years since we lost the Queen of Niskayuna, and we've held off getting a dog until now because we were planning a big home renovation-- adding on to the mud room, creating a new bedroom on the second floor, and gutting and replacing the kitchen. This was quite the undertaking…
Because of the flood of responses I got to yesterday's post on The Insanity of the FDA Approved Obesity Drug for Dogs, I thought I'd start a series of follow up posts answering the many questions I got by email and in the comments here. The most common question was, Okay, so the drug is a bad idea…

Aww, what a cutie! Congrats on the new addition!
