WildStang Robotics Team Going to Washington, D.C.

Check out the cool Robots at the Expo!

The WildStang Robotics Team, housed at Rolling Meadows High School and comprised of students from Rolling Meadows, Wheeling, Prospect, and Elk Grove High Schools is travelling to Washington, D.C. October 21-25 to participate in the first ever USA Science and Engineering Festival being held on the National Mall.

Twenty-three students are travelling to Washington. Chaperones and several engineering mentors from corporate sponsor Motorola will also attend the event. The WildStang Robotics Team will demonstrate several different robots representing FIRST. FIRST, (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is the parent organization for the FIRST Robotics Competition that the WildStang Team participates in every year. FIRST was founded by entrepreneur Dean Kamen to excite high school students about entering careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM). STEM related careers are currently receiving major promotion and attention throughout the United States.

Through Congresswoman Melissa Bean's office, the WildStang Team has planned tours to the Pentagon, the White House and the Capitol. Students will demonstrate their robots at the FIRST booth on the National Mall and have the opportunity to learn about STEM-related careers by visiting the over 500 exhibits being set up for the weekend.

The WildStang Team won the world championship in 2009 at the FIRST Robotics Competition, winning the championship for the second time. The team has also previously won the prestigious "Chairman's Award" for having the team that best idealizes the goals of FIRST. Over 80 students are on this years' team.
