Festival will feature AT&T Eco Booth and 50 satellite events around the nation to motivate kids to take interest in science, technology, engineering and math
WASHINGTON, Oct. 18 /PRNewswire/ -- To motivate kids to take interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), AT&T* will sponsor the USA Science and Engineering Festival on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. on October 23rd and 24th. According to a new report by the President's Council of Advisers in Science and Technology, the U.S. has extraordinary STEM assets that could be leveraged to revitalize student interest and increase proficiency in STEM subjects and, ultimately, promote jobs and economic renewal.
The festival, also supported by a Department of Energy grant, is designed to promote sustainability as an overarching theme - exposing children and families to new technologies that are strengthening communities, building careers, and stimulating economic growth.
"The USA Science and Engineering Festival is about connecting young minds with today's technologies and inspiring kids to imagine the innovations of tomorrow," said Charlene Lake, senior vice president of public affairs and chief sustainability officer, AT&T. "This is one very important opportunity to enhance learning among the next generation of engineers, scientists and leaders. It's their ideas that will benefit our communities as well as our business."
AT&T will feature our Eco Booth where event-goers can charge their devices using renewable energy generated by the wind turbine and solar panels on top of the booth. The new AT&T ZERO charger will also be on display to allow participants to explore energy saving devices while they interact with iPads and iPhones to test out apps.
AT&T Continues Education Efforts in More than 20 States

AT&T is committed to advancing education, strengthening communities and improving lives. As part of its commitment, AT&T launched AT&T Aspire in April 2008, a $100 million multiyear education initiative to improve high school retention rates and prepare the next generation of U.S. workers. AT&T Aspire is also the largest and most significant investment in education in the company's history.
AT&T and the AT&T Foundation have also given nearly $80 million to support STEM initiatives since 1995. Projects supported by AT&T contributions range from STEM scholarship programs and science/math focused summer camps for at risk youth to hands-on technology labs and elite robotics competitions at the nation's leading universities.
