Who says science has to be boring?

Last week, Hojatoleslam Kazem Sedighi, Tehran's acting Friday prayer leader was quoted as saying :

"Many women who do not dress modestly ... lead young men astray, corrupt their chastity and spread adultery in society, which (consequently) increases earthquakes,"

Today, blogger Jen McCreight, is running a global experiment to test the hypothesis that not dressing modestly causes earthquakes.

"With the power of our scandalous bodies combined, we should surely produce an earthquake," she wrote.

Join in the experiment; bare an ankle or two.

The idea that deglaciation could affect vulcanism is not new. For anyone who thinks that linking climate change to volcanic eruptions is a prime example of over-the-top alarmism, consider this look at the subject in New Scientist in 2006: Although these forces on the Earth's crust are subtly…

It's UC Davis, anything but bringing a surf board is ok.

except that the quote doesn't say indecency causes earthquakes - it says indecency causes adultery, and adultery causes earthquakes.

Lecturing in a bikini. Now that would be some data point.

As for me, I wore my bikini at the pool where I swim for a Masters club. A bit ho hum but I had to do my part somehow.

It was a litte hard to be so immodest here; its winter. I wore a low-cut top.

@Keenir

Quite so. Following that logic, there should be less earthquakes in winter (since peope tend to wear more and thus there should be less adultery). In NZ 2009 there were more earthquakes in summer than in winter (4660 vs 5113) but the earthquakes in winter were stronger than summer (2.6 vs 2.4 on average). Also, 4 of NZ's top ten earthquakes were in winter, only 1 in summer (the rest in spring/autumn). Does this mean MORE adultery happens in summer in NZ, but more serious adultery in winter?
