Avoid racists wearing 'intellectual' garb

[via Times Online] Dr Watson, co-discoverer of the structure of DNA and author of "Avoid Boring People", says that

he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence is the same as ours - whereas all the testing says not really.". He said he hoped that everyone was equal, but countered that "people who have to deal with black employees find this not true".

Did he really say that? Sheesh. Here's a sensible response to that from the same article

Commenting on Dr Watson's current views about race, Steven Rose, a professor of biological sciences at the Open University, said: "This is Watson at his most scandalous. He has said similar things about women before but I have never heard him get into this racist terrain.

He added: "If he knew the literature in the subject he would know he was out of his depth scientifically, quite apart from socially and politically."

Besides, what is 'intelligence'? Certainly, not the one which makes people make asinine unscientific statements.

James Watson has really put his foot in it this time. He has a tendency to say some shockingly offensive and bizarre things. Dr Watson told The Sunday Times that he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa" because "all our social policies are based on the fact that their intelligence…
Spitting on Rosalind Franklin's grave is apparently not satisfying enough for Jim Watson. When you are a largemouth ass, you have to do much, much more. So now he's maligned all of Africa and everyone of African descent. Here's a quote: he was "inherently gloomy about the prospect of Africa"…

From NY review about a year ago. The second paragraph seems to suggest that Watson's melanin research justifies the fears of the KKK about protecting women from oversexed dark races.

R, the NY Review (that's not NY Times, for those who failed to take note) is nonsense. I won't bother explaining why. You need to educate yourself before you go quoting a farce and making jaundiced statements.

Galileo.
Darwin.
Watson.

Why are you people afraid of truth?

Daedalus: Let Watson say something like this if there's ample scientific evidence for it. Then it will only be politically incorrect.
