The July issue of the newsletter that I write to keep you informed of The Scientific Indian website is out today. If you haven't subscribed yet, you can subscribe and also read the previous issues at TheScian.com.
The number of visitors to TheScian.com has grown steadily the past one month. More heartening than the growth is the amount of time each visitor spends here which averages to about 6 minutes during each visit. This is almost like sitting all through a classical music concert when Kylie Minogue is playing in the neighborhood. I am very glad of this fact.
We have more content to come. Starting next month, we will publish essays from folks who are passionate about science and are experts in some area of science, called Science Essay Series 2007, it should keep you engaged and entertained for long. I am running short of people I know. If you enjoy reading someone on science, let me know and I'll ask him/her for an essay.
In another few weeks, we'll have a daily updated News section at the site covering science and culture news with asian focus. It will be community-driven and your participation will shape its future.
On the contest front, the stories for our Science Fiction Contest are slowly coming in. There is time and I am looking forward to all the wonderful stories.
Finally, I'd like to point you to a book I read recently: Daniel Kehlmann's novel Measuring the World. It is a wonderfully humorous semi-fictional account of the lives of two great men of science, Humboldt and Gauss. In it, I think I have found a door through which I could enter German literature and culture. I have made a few notes to help me understand the novel and hope to share it with you soon. If one has a discerning and intelligent audience, publishing your thoughts could very well become part of your education.
