President George Bush signed off with a defiant farewell over his refusal to accept global climate change targets at his last G8 summit.
As he prepared to fly out from Japan, he told his fellow leaders: "Goodbye from the world's biggest polluter."
President Bush made the private joke in the summit's closing session, senior sources said yesterday. His remarks were taken as a [one]-fingered salute from the President from Texas who is wedded to the oil industry. He had given some ground at the summit by saying he would "seriously consider" a 50 per cent cut in carbon emissions by 2050.
I corrected the British euphemism to its American form for clarity. Our President is a gigantic jerk.
Then again, John McCain may well be a bigger one. Setting aside that he called his wife a "cunt," calls audience members "little bastards," and dumped his first wife for a rich heiress when he returned home and found that the first wife had gotten crippled in a car accident.
No, McSame's jerkiness can be expressed in his bone-headed joking about killing random Iranian civilians with lung cancer and emphysema. Or perhaps in his calling Social Security, a program which turned retirement from a path to poverty into the Golden Years, an "absolute disgrace."
However much Barack Obama's vote to gut the 4th Amendment may piss me off, there are a host of ways in which he is a better Senator and will be a better President than either McCain or Bush. Because of his vote, I won't be giving to his campaign any more (I made myself a promise), but there's still the DSCC and DCCC, as well as great candidates like Jim Slattery, Donald Betts and Nancy Boyda who need our support.

you're depressing me Josh. ARGH these people make me so angry sometimes.
He's worse than just a jerk, and he wasn't joking. Like those 50+% of Americans who think of themselves as "conservative," the kind who respond to reports of environmental destruction by buying giant trucks and increasing the amount of driving they do, he revels in acting out the most destructive behavior possible, all the while believing his shallow "lifestyle" is the envy of the world. These days, that is part of what defines Americans who call themselves conservative. I'm reminded of another "joke" that such Americans have graced us with in recent years, the "Kick Their Ass and Take Their Gas" bumper stickers, affixed to the backs of massive BMW SUVs and other immoral vehicles.
