As of November 1st, 2017, ScienceBlogs is shutting down, necessitating relocation of this blog.
It's been over eight years and 1279 posts. It's been predatory open access publishers, April Fool's posts and multiple wars on science. A long and wonderful trip, career-transforming, network building…
If you're on my hallowed List of Correspondents you'll already have received the image here as an attachment (and at slightly higher resolution: email me if you want a higher-res version). For the other several thousand of you, happy Christmas and all that. I've never been one to bother with paper…
I disappeared for a while to teach a class. At the outset I had grand plans - Not only would I design the course from scratch, give the lectures, and grade the assignments, I would also write up all of the lectures for the blog and maintain my same level pf productivity in the lab. Unfortunately,…
I'm a fan of the comic strip Lio — the one with the weird little kid with the pet squid and whose antics clearly make him a descendant of the Addams Family. The strip for Christmas eve was a little different, though.
It hit home for me because the day after Christmas is my day of melancholy. It…
Merry Christmas, Darren!
Merry christmas to you and your family too :)
A Merry Christmas to everyone!
Merry sol invictus and happy new year!
Merry Christmas Darren! Long-time lurker - your blog's provided many hours of entertainment and distraction from my (maths) degree over the years. See you in the new year!
Merry Santmas, a happy Getting a New Calendar Day and a terrific Till an Even Newer Calendar Takes the Place of the Next One, Darren!
A very Merry Christmas indeed, and here's to new discoveries in 2011!

Merry Christmas and happy new year!
Bah! Humbug!
Merry Christmas, Darren,
And thanks for another great year of fascinating and thought-provoking Tetrapod Zoology.
I'd also like to wish the best to all the very erudite commenters who contribute making TetZoo the best science blog out there.
Mike
Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, Happy New Year, a belated Happy Winter Solstice, and have a nice Winterval!
Echoing Mike from Ottawa, all the best to the commenters, too!
Despite my own remark about the erudition of the commenters here, it only just (D'oh!) occurred to me to ask the commenters here (or Darren if he pops in) what they think of Michel Laurin's 'How Vertebrates Left the Water'. I'd be interested in an update on Jenny Clack's 'Gaining Ground' but with more detail than Shubin's 'Your Inner Fish' and was wondering if Laurin's book is any good.
It's not that detailed, but you should get it anyway.
Of course, Michel supervised my doctoral thesis, so I might be a bit biased... but the book is good at explaining big pictures and phylogenetics. :-)
Happy St. Stephen's Day aka Boxing Day
Hope you and yours had a lovely Christmas, and best wishes for the new year.
Thanks, David. I will pick up a copy.
"Michel supervised my doctoral thesis"
OK, I expected someone here would have read it, but I shouldn't hav been surprised there's that close a connection.
Merry Christmas to you all from me.
Merry Christmas, Happy Yule, Happy New Year, a belated Happy Winter Solstice, and have a nice Winterval!
Just got my Scientific American with your article.
that was a bit of Christmas present.
David,
What is the article and what issue of Sci-Am?
Mike: it's this article in the Jan 2011 issue.
Happy solstice and a good new year to all!
If you're going to be in London, you might want to see the Horniman Museum' a temporary exhibit on the UK's endangered animals, called "A Memorial for the Still Living", which is open only until January 9th.
