This was going to be a funny post until I saw this video, provided by the Cary, NC, Fire Department via our local newspaper.
With the storms up and down the US East Coast today and tomorrow (and frickin' snow in Georgia and South Carolina), our local public radio station just ran warnings to those who plan to deep-fry their turkeys for Thanksgiving.
Local authorities are concerned that with the inclement weather, folks might move their deep-fryers into garages and under carports. Two house fires resulted locally last year from such activity. Proper deep-frying is conducted safely on a flat surface, several dozen feet away from buildings and any overhead structures for reasons apparent in the video link.
DO NOT DEEP FRY YOUR TURKEY IN A GARAGE OR UNDER A CARPORT.
And, if you see a neighbor setting up the Cajun-cooker tomorrow, do a favor for your brother or sister and just say 'no' to indoor deep-frying.

Who on earth deep-fries a turkey anyway? You'd need to be completely batshit insane.
And make sure you thaw your turkey entirely before deepfrying. Otherwise you're in for quite a show.

I have deep fried a turkey. I am not batshit insane. In fact a lot of people do it and you can buy turkey fryers at WalMart, Home Depot, and tons of other stores. It's a great way to cook a bird.
What do you know about turkey frying that makes you call me crazy?
I've never tried it, but I've heard a lot of good things about the end product. But it's clearly not for the faint-hearted or inexperienced. Or stupid.
