Eureka on the Radio

Yesterday, I drove through the slush to Albany to do an appearance on KERA radio's "Think" from a studio there. The audio is at that link.

It was a bit of a strange experience, because I drove to a place to do the interview in a radio studio, but I was the only one in the room, taking questions from a disembodied voice. I enjoyed it, though, and the audio quality is a lot better than you would've gotten from even a land-line phone. This was a live show, including some call-in questions, and that always has a working-without-a-net quality that is kind of exciting. I got in a bunch of stories that are in the book, and ad-libbed a few more that I think worked out pretty well.

Anyway, if you've got some time to kill, give it a listen. I think it went well, and look forward to doing more media stuff in the coming weeks.

More like this

I forgot to schedule a blog post to remind people to tune in to my appearance on WAMC's "The Roundtable" yesterday morning, talking about How to Teach Physics to Your Dog. If you missed it, and have fourteen minutes to kill, they have the segment on their audio archive now. It went well, and I had…
The NPR program Here and Now has been running segments this week on Science in America, and one of these from yesterday featured me talking about science literacy. We had some technical difficulties getting this recorded-- it was supposed to happen at a local radio studio last week, but they had…
A couple of quick updates on Eureka publicity, as we get on a plane today to take the kids to Florida for the weekend: -- APS News has an excerpt from the chapter on collecting hobbies. This is kind of choppy, obviously cut down to meet a word count limit of some sort, but it gets the basic flavor…
The following will be of interest only to people who were at Boskone, or who for some reason care deeply about what I did there, so I'll put the bulk of the text below the fold. We arrived at about 3:00 Friday afternoon, parked in the hotel garage, and discovered that the trunk of my car would no…

I only hope that someone...anyone...in Texas actually listens to you.

Half a dozen people called in with questions, so there were at least some Texans listening...

Hi Prof Orzel,
I discussed the gravity model with you on the show. I was in my mothers empty house, and it has no heat so I must have sounded strange as I was freezing while trying to talk about physics. Ha !
I am only a EE so you got off easy. You must come back to Texas and face some real PhDs in physics.
Yes Texans do listen. !
