Thursday Monkeying Around Blogging 062311

SteelyKid is in a bit of a "no pictures" phase at the moment, which makes it kind of difficult to get weekly shots. Hence the run of Toddler Blogging pictures without Appa in them-- when we pick Appa up, she runs away.

Thus, this shot with the color balance all wonky (I could do a better job of cleaning it up, but I'm lazy), because the flash hadn't warmed up yet, and she started freaking out before I could get a better shot. It does, however, show the finest balloon animal you can get from "Mr. Twisty," who does his act at the Greenmarket every now and then:

That's a monkey climbing a tree to get a banana, per SteelyKid's request. Well, ok, what she actually asked for was a doggie climbing a tree because he was being chased by a dinosaur, combining the requests of the previous four children, but the monkey seemed more plausible, and she was very happy with it. It also serves very well as a head-bonker, provided I duck down a little bit.

Hopefully, the camera-shy phase will pass soon, or else I'm going to need to cultivate some paparazzi skills...

We're having our umpteenth winter storm here, which means everybody has to work at clearning snow away. And I do mean everybody: OK, I did most of the work of clearing a path to the door, but SteelyKid insisted on helping sweep some snow up with her little broom afterwards. The color's a little…
SteelyKid's "no pictures" phase continues, meaning that I have to do things like snapping low-light pictures of her after she falls asleep: I used a really wide aperture lens for this-- waking her up with the flash would be the end of the world-- and had to process the hell out of it to get the…
A few years back, I did a couple of posts on the physics of a sad balloon (that is, a helium balloon that can no longer lift itself up to the ceiling), the first on simple buoyancy, the second on how long it takes for the helium to leak out. These were based on only a couple of data points, though…
