SteelyKid has cast Appa aside in favor of bigger and better things:
That's right. She's not allowed to have candy yet, but she's already gearing up for Halloween...
The pumpkin bucket is actually a bribe-- I bought it for her to play with while we waited for her prescription to be filled yesterday. This is in fine family tradition-- my father used to buy presents for my sister and me when he had to take us shopping for my mother's birthday...
While we're not going to try giving her candy any time soon, SteelyKid is making great progress in the area of eating, as can be seen in the video below the fold:
That's right-- she's learned how to use a spoon. More or less. A half-dozen mouthfuls after this was shot, she gave up on eating the goop (beef mixed with "apple vanilla mixed grains" baby food), in favor of just banging the spoon in the bowl, making a mess. She's got the idea, though...

That's awesome. My boy's almost 9 months, and he eats solid food well, if you feed it to him. I can't wait until he can feed himself, even if it occasionally gets messy.

Don't you just love their concentration levels for what we would consider the simplest things! Such a darling!
I think a kid has to be about 2 before they fully appreciate Halloween for what it is, anyway. I took our older daughter out trick-or-treating the first time when she was about that age, and after about the third house it was as if a light went on inside her head, and she charged up the walk to the fourth house, saying to herself "Get candy! Get candy!" the whole way.
Then, about a week later, she put on her costume again and announced that she wanted to go get more candy. She was very disappointed to find out that it only works once a year.
My daughter was two-and-a-half when she went trick-or-treating the second time. Her costume? Santa Claus.
Chad, I hope the faithful Appa retains a place in your family! My daughter still has two stuffed animals, Ribbon and Chloe, from her infancy. They're looking pretty worn, but they have special place of honor in her personal pantheon of stuffed animals.
Ok, just out of curiosity, what IS that cuddly-toy-thing in front of her?
...She is adorable, by the way.
That's Appa, a flying Sky Bison from _Avatar: The Last Airbender_.
(Chad, you need a blog FAQ, possibly consisting solely of this question!)
