Haven't You Always Wanted a Monkey (Dance)?

I have to say, I had no idea that offering to dance like a monkey would be quite so appealing. Apparently, though, it's a big hit-- John Scalzi proclaimed it "the comedy highlight of 2008." This, from a year featuring Tina Fey as Sarah Palin.

In the two days since Scalzi's post, donations have jumped from $1,700 to almost $4,200. Which still isn't $6,000, so I'm not dancing yet, but I am making sure I know how to record video with the webcam, because the whole thing looks disturbingly possible....

Feel free to provide suggestions on what dancing like a monkey would look like. YouTube isn't much help at this point, but there is this:

Which, um, is a song, and has the word "monkey" in it. So that's almost like a dancing monkey. Kind of.

Anyway, make a donation. Thanks.

First and foremost, thank you to everybody who has donated to my DonorsChoose challenge this year. At the time of this writing, we've raised just over $1,700, temporarily good enough for first place on the ScieceBlogs leader board. Yesterday was Founders Day at Union, celebrating the 220th anniversary of the granting of a charter for the college. The name of the event always carries a sort of British-boarding-school air for me, and never fails to earworm me with a very particular rugby song, but really it's just one of those…
So, what are the results of the Christmas Tunes Experiment? I've had a playlist of the songs on the Jefitoblog Holidy Mix Tape (plus a few other things) locked into the iTunes Party Shuffle while I work on the computer at home. At work, I stuck with the usual four-and-five-star playlist in the lab…

I think you should go for the classic "organ grinder monkey" dance.

You'll need a little red jacket, and some kind of cap strapped to your head, and a little tin cup. To the sound of organ grinder music, scamper about and occasionally shove the tin cup at people.

For bonus points, get panicked and start screeching at some point.
