I'm going to be visiting the Perimeter Institute next week, talking on Monday (switched from Wednesday) at 3pm. Visiting Perimeter is always a treat: quantum information, quantum foundations, quantum gravity, cosmology, particle physics, superstring theory...I think I've thought of going into all of those fields (grad classes in astro at Berkeley not so useful these days in quantum computing. Okay useful in a different sort of way.) Indeed, I think I'm still thinking of going into quantum information.
P.S. anyone recommend a good jogging path starting near the Perimeter Institute?

There's the Uptown Loop Lake Walk that leaves from the PI back yard.
Ha, I was going to suggest Waterloo Park as well, but it is a bit of a stretch to call it a "lake walk". It still amuses me that they call that brown pond "Silver Lake".
Heh. There really aren't any good running trails near PI. If you're willing to do bike-path surface, the Iron Horse trail has decent scenery. The Trans-Canada trail runs right past PI (following the train tracks, and heading over to the University), and while the scenery isn't anything to mention, at least it's stone dust (packed gravel) rather than pavement.
If you want a genuine dirt trail, preferably with decent scenery, you gotta go a couple of miles away.
I'm reading "First Principles", a book about the founding of PI by Howard Burton. It is fascinating and very funny, highly recommended.
You should run through the park to the UW campus, then diagonally across campus through the green area, and then you can run around Columbia lake.
I would think PI to IQC's interim building and back would be far enough! There is another walk/bike track that passes near the hospital at the Waterloo/Kitchner border. I suspect one of the others will know where it starts/goes.
Joe, that is the Iron Horse Trail. It is paved for most of the way, so not great for running. It is also dirt in portions, so not good for bicycling either. I cannot imagine what goes through the drug-addled brains of Waterloo's city planners.
