It's called I Hate When People Take God's Name In Vain, and just the premise is hilarious. Think about this.

The meta-hilarity is that they are so serious and so completely oblivious to their message. You apparently aren't supposed to mention "God" except when you're praying or praising him…or chastising others for saying "God" or when using him to promote your facebook fan page.

Uh-oh. I'm being chastised by Jason, and by more than a few commenters in the thread about Mitt Romney's views on evolution. You're all going to have to crack the whip harder, though, because I am still unpersuaded, and I'm still mildly disgusted with all the people praising Romney for his anti-…
I've tried a different tack now — I've left several comments on Matt Nisbet's very own blog, in the fading hope that he'll actually pay attention to what I'm saying, rather than what he imagines I'm saying, or what other people tell him that they imagine I'm saying. Comments there are held up for…
Sorry, fellow atheists, but if you thought you could just get away with sitting quietly and not making a noise, you're doomed. The situation is worse than simply some silly believers flying into a snit because horribly militant, aggressive, obnoxious atheists put up signs that say something…

To be fair, they didn't have the intertoooobs, then, nor Monty Python movies, and had to have fun somehow. I mean, we get to whine about the religious endlessly (not that there's anything wrong with that)...

A good stoning got rid of the obnoxious, fed bloodlust, and reassured everyone that the religion rules where it matters. Good community entertainment, Biblical, and something that obviously appeals to at least some of the IDiots (Waterloo!).

That group is hilarious. How much time can we make them waste?

Undoubtedly, the two policemen stole the show :)

Taking God's name in vain? I Always think that means pretending to be a Christian when you aren't. Falsely claiming to be acting in God's name, I mean.

Taking God's name in vain? I Always think that means pretending to be a Christian when you aren't.

That is probably not the main meaning.

IIRC, it means pretending to speak in god's name while just Making Stuff Up.

That happens a lot. God is the biggest power in the universe (supposedly) so people are always trying to grab some of it.

If someone said, "give me all your money and your cutest kids", most people wouldn't hand them over."

If someone does say, "god wants me to have all your money and your cutest kids", well that is different. People hand them over all the damn time.

The worst offenders today are fundie xian ministers, televangelists, and Rapture Right Now kooks.

Ugh. Typical Christian self-absorption in full effect -- "when in doubt, be a victim, and point fingers at others for their 'bad' behavior' while ignoring your own."

A little more bible reading might get them to one of my favorite passages, Matthew 7:3: "Why do you see the speck that is in your brother’s eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?"

Myers!

Look. Perfectly harml ARRRRRGHHG

You did it wrong. You have to recite my name 5 times, and you have to spell it differently each time.

Became a fan, commented, waiting to have my comments deleted.

wikipedia:

"You shall not make wrongful use of the name of the LORD your God, for the LORD will not acquit anyone who misuses his name."

This commandment prohibits not just swearing but also the misappropriation of religious language in order to commit a crime, participating in occult practices, and blaspheming against places or people that are holy to God. (See Catechism 2142–2167).[48]

According to wikipedia, this is what the Catholics think taking god's name in vain means.

According to a google search, there are a lot of different opinions on just what "taking the lord's name in vain" actually means or entails.

There are only 10 commandments, one would think the magic book could come up with 10 unambiguous rules.

The howls of indignation are a sign that we're doing it right.

Umm ... why??

Surely there are better things we could be doing, and better ways to represent ourselves, than *trolling*!

I just created a new group called I Hate When People Take Thor's Name In Vain.

For a Facebook group, that should be "I bet I can find 500,000 people who all hate when people take Thor's name in vain before June to the honor and praise of Thor but only 3% of people will be brave enough to repost this as their status for one day to show how much they love Thor - will you?"

There are only 10 commandments, one would think the magic book could come up with 10 unambiguous rules.

I think there should be only two commandments and eight "do the best you can."

you have to spell it differently each time.

Make up your mind! Is that for unbelievers or true believers?

That Facebook page is no more. It has ceased to be. It has expired and gone to meet its maker. It's a stiff. Bereft of life, it rests in peace! If you hadn't nailed it to this post, it'd be pushing up the daisies. Its HTML processes are now 'istory. It's kicked the bucket, shuffled off this mortal coil, run down the curtain and joined the choir invisible! THIS IS AN EX-FACEBOOK PAGE!!

The group seems to have disappeared.

Oh good. I thought I got permabanned. I would been all sad and whatnot.

Ah - it disappeared as a group and was reincarnated as a fan page. Now it's in a happier place.

I think it may be a joke of some kind. It has less than 10 fans, including me.

Oh wait, group still there too. My bad.

Well, either the group was dissolved, or it's private now, because I can't see it. This after I corrected them on what it ACTUALLY means to take God's name in vain (i.e. to swear an oath on the name of God that you have no plan of keeping), and they repeatedly deleted comments (even one daring them to keep the comments).

Ironic. This group is using GodTM name's in vain.

BTW, the Judeo-Christian GodTM does not have a name. That is, God's name is not God.

To be fair, religious Jews never say the proper name of God, be it Yahweh or Jehovah or whatever. They refer to God as "Hashem" (the name), unless in prayer or when reading Torah, when they say "Adonai" (my lord).

So their silliness isn't really the hypocricy that Monty Python makes it out to be.

Wait. Literally EVERY TIME you use God's name is completely in vain. Especially during prayer. What could be more useless and in vain than devoting time to worshipping and demanding favors from someone who doesn't even exist?!

Ohhhh they are going to hate it tomorrow when "'A' Week on Facebook" starts. How many of their members will be changing their pictures to the atheist A?

I bet those "Blasphemy is a victimless crime" bumperstickers really get their panties in a twist.

In fact, I'm convinced their whole tantrum is based on a simple mistranslation of their infallible book.

It seems highly likely to me that the commandment against taking God's name "in vain" originally referred to breaking an oath sworn in his name, not swearing.

Silly christians. (Also, it's not just the cheesemakers, it's makers of ANY dairy products.)

That page had a photo of a billboard putting the following words in My mouth:

If you must curse, take your own name!

-God

I never said that. The blasphemers behind that billboard will burn in Hell for taking My name in vain.

the moron who started the "I hate it when ppl take the name of the lord in vane has bailed. He took down all the posts and posted this under the Info section.
"... Unfortunately I had to revoke access to the fan page wall.
Mission:
Why must so many people resort to disgracing the Lord's name? It is offensive and one should not speak of something which is Holy in an unclean unholy manner. Without Jesus Christ there would be no hope for mankind.
Products:
Please copy the script below, Click suggest to Friends, then paste it into your browser and press enter. This should select all of your friends for you..." (script not pasted)
I think that is a win for our side.

I assure everyone you may come to my FaceBook page and take the name of the lord in vane as long as you like. I will never restrict access like the easily faith shaken, not stirred Xtians. http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/group.php?gid=104362809602000&ref=nf
