I'm down at this funky coffeehouse in Fargo, the Red Raven, watching Roy Zimmerman set up. It's not too late, the show starts in a half hour, so you Dakotans better come on over! It's a nice cozy little venue, and a great place for a performance.
Definitely a great performance — Roy is great about making you laugh over situations that ought to make you cry. I heard a few new songs, including one about Sarah Palin that must have been written in just the past few days. Here's my obligatory fanboy picture:
If you missed him tonight, there are more chances. He's about halfway through his 48 state tour, and he's going to be spending the next few days in Minneapolis/St Paul. He's not actually participating in the Republican National Convention (good thing, too: I think somebody would shoot him in the face), but is doing shows at various venues around the area, so check his website to see the details of his schedule.
This is important: he isn't booked yet for every single day! If you know of an organization that could use a little relief from the oppressive atmosphere of the RNC this week, bring him in and give him the opportunity to spread a little liberal humor.

I'd love to be in Fargo, PZ, but I'm in Opelousas, LA riding out a hurricane, I'm liveblogging it, too!
I was guessing that all those Republicans in Minnesota had crowded you out to the Dakotas, but I hear they've decided to do humanitarian work instead. Quite heart warming!
Nevertheless, I'm sure you're sorry Bush won't be coming to St. Paul.
If I hop on the next flight there, I might just be in time to see them lock up tomorrow night ;)
Sorry PZ, the choice was black-lighting for moths or Roy Zimmerman (and yourself), I had to pick science.
Quit Rubbing it in.....
I wish I would have known about it more in advance (cries a little inside). If anyone is doing anything after the event let me know I will be all over it.
You wouldn't be meeting two men to ask them to "do a job for you" would you PZ?
Roy is going to be playing in Philadelphia in November. I don't know yet whether his show (he hasn't announced the date yet) will coincide with your visit, but if it does, consider this an invite. I'll buy you a ticket. (If the dates don't coincide, then I only plan to buy you a beer, so you better damn well hope that they coincide.) ;-P
A little less turnout than I was expecting, but it was a pretty awesome performance.
It was great to finally see you and Mr. Zimmerman in person! We were the two kids sitting in the corner by the sofa.
Wish I could make my way over, but you are a bit far from Texas. Keep on blogging. Stopping to let you know I picked your blog as one of my choices for Blog Day. Best regards, and thank you for the good work. Keep up the good fight.
Hell PZ it'll take me a month to get there on my high horse, from Oregon.
Then there's that fringe group of your Ilk that travel about on fine, shapely, Dappled asses. Who knows when they will arrive? They stop at every possible place to swill fine wines, tell improbable tales and frolic with goat herds and lovers.
And the waterbound Ilk...there's a trouble...
You'll just have to stay till Hell freezes over.
Can't wait until Roy gets down here to SC. As I'm brand new in town, I don't know where any of the venues are. I'll keep looking, but I'm not promising anything...
We will meet up
Some where some time.
Your thought processes
are weirdly "similer" to mine

"making you laugh over situations that ought to make you cry..."
The Discordians have a word for this: horrormirth. It's that moment when you realize that nothing makes sense and that it would be more fun to laugh than scream your lungs out.
I'd like to go, but I'm a long ways from there...maybe when he comes to Edmonton I may be able to show up...
Anyhow, here's a message from a representative of the Patriarchy.
So, did he know you? He MUST have heard of you by now! "Oh, yeah, you're crackerman!" (Though it'd be much better if you'd gotten famous for stuff like The Courtier's Reply and such writings, but people seem to pay attention only when they're being "insulted".)
I saw him in NY, and he was definitely looking forward to meeting PZ - he asked how I had heard of him, I told him Pharyngula, and he specifically said said that he was planning on meeting PZ at this performance.
I don't know about anyone else, but slap a "RZ/PZ 2008" caption on that picture and I know who I'm voting for...
Darn it. I should have checked in yesterday. I'm only a mile away from the Red Raven. I could have seen my two favorite people!
Double darn it. I could have been there with a little more notice. Pooh.
Thanks for posting the picture. You look like you finally feel better.
I like these new songs bubbling up through the video tubes. . . like "How Can We Lose?"
Darn it! You both visit Fargo on the very day I'm visiting the Fort Abraham Lincoln State Park, including the Mandan village On-A-Slant. Oh, well, better luck next time.
I just saw Roy in Minneapolis at the Bedlam Theater on the West Bank. It was a small crowd, so I got a chance to talk to him and pose with him in a picture (similar to PZ's). Roy was terrific and had a new song about McCain's VP selection (Sarah "Palin Comparison")!
