If You Send Me an Advocacy Email, You Might Want to Read the Blog First

So in my blog inbox I received a long piece of propaganda decrying the Universal Service Fund. I like the USF, although I'm sure some improvements could be made. But look at the list of people who sent the letter (italics mine):

National Taxpayers Union is the nation's largest and oldest taxpayer group, with 362,000 members nationwide. NTU is a nonpartisan, nonprofit citizen organization founded in 1969 to work for lower taxes, smaller government, and economic freedom at all levels. Note: For further information about NTU, visit www.ntu.org.

Americans for Tax Reform (http://www.atr.org/) is a non-partisan coalition of taxpayers and taxpayer groups who oppose any and all federal and state tax increases. ATR was founded in 1985 by Grover Norquist at the request of President Reagan. ATR serves as a national clearinghouse for the grassroots taxpayers' movement by working with approximately 800 state and county level groups.

Americans for Prosperity (http://www.americansforprosperity.org/) is committed to educating citizens about economic policy and mobilizing those citizens as advocates in the public policy process. AFP is an organization of grassroots leaders who engage citizens in the name of limited government and free markets on the local, state and federal levels. The grassroots members of AFP advocate for public policies that champion the principles of entrepreneurship and fiscal and regulatory restraint.

The Seniors Coalition (http://www.senior.org) is a non-profit, 501(c)(4), non-partisan, education and issue advocacy organization that represents the interests and concerns of America's senior citizens at both the state and federal levels. Its mission is to protect the quality of life and economic well-being that older Americans have earned while supporting common sense solutions to the challenges of the future. The Coalition was founded as a public advocacy group during the fight to repeal the Medicare Catastrophic Coverage Act in 1989. Since then, it has grown rapidly and expanded our advocacy to include a wide range of other important issues.

The Maryland Taxpayers Association (http://www.mdtaxes.org) is a 501(c)(4) non-partisan, not-for-profit, volunteer grass-roots organization which asks Maryland elected officials for their pledge not to raise taxes, acts to make Maryland government more efficient, and organizes and chairs the Maryland Center-Right Coalition and the Maryland Leadership Conference.

Do they read the blog? Apparently not.

If you live in Massachusetts, one of the most important votes you'll be casting is for or against proposition 1. What is proposition 1? It's the right-wing libertarian delusion that the best government is no government. Written by that societal piranha, Grover Norquist, proposition 1 would cut the…
Frederick Clarkson has a post at Talk2Action about a new Senate report that shows all sorts of funny goings on between Jack Abramoff and Toward Tradition, a group headed by the religious right's favorite wingnut whacko Rabbi, Daniel Lapin. I had no idea that Abramoff had served as chairman of that…
Science Debate is an organization that has been trying to get the presidential candidates to directly address important science policy issues. After several months of meeting and convening and conversing among top science organizations and seeking public input, Science Debate Dot Org has nailed…
Ned Ryun, the wingnutty twin son of thankfully-disgraced former Congressman (and former middle distance runner) Jim Ryun, is worried: ACORN is going to be helping with the 2010 census. I think that’s a sign of the apocalpyse [sic] for the week; kind of like letting the fox guard the hen house. It…

I get emails from the AFA warning me about the impending gaypocalypse. They have given me many convenient opportunities to use their email relay to send messages to my legislators in favor of gay rights, and to tell advertisers and television networks how much I appreciate gay-friendly programming. Maybe I should sign up for other right-wing causeletters.

I get the AFA e-mails, but I signed up. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer. I like to see what these people are up to so I can respond properly.

Exactly right, Mr. Ward. likewise I get the weekly update to Chalcedon's website, though I am an apatheist. (I don't have belief in a god, nor do I give a shit about the subject itself. Dr. Rappochio coined the term at Atheists VS Christianity, a Google group.)
