Eric Boehlert compares Bush's approval ratings with those of other presidents:
Here then, is some much-needed historical perspective to put Bush's standing in context:*According to Gallup, on the eve of President John F. Kennedy's 1963 assassination, he was suffering the worst job-approval ratings of his presidency -- 58 percent.
*In 1968, when the war in Vietnam was claiming hundreds of U.S. casualties each week, President Lyndon Johnson was considered so unpopular that he didn't even run for re-election. Johnson's average Gallup approval rating for that year was 43 percent.
*When Reagan's second term was rocked by the Iran-Contra scandal, his ratings plummeted, all the way down to 43 percent.
*This year, according to the Gallup numbers, Bush has averaged an approval rating of 37 percent.
The reason Bush is so unpopular is that he has screwed up everything. He is not a tragic figure like LBJ, who passed groundbreaking civil rights legislation and who enacted policies that lowered the poverty rate from 22% to 12%. Bush has done nothing worth a damn...except give his Halliburton pals tax cut after tax cut. At this point, it's only the diehards who are sticking with him:
There are some people, and I'm one of them, that believe George Bush was placed where he is by the Lord," Tomanio said. "I don't care how he governs, I will support him. I'm a Republican through and through."

This article and especially the quote is a great example of what is wrong with this country. El Diablo, as Hugo Chavez called him, is a village idiot in charge of this great nation, and even with a 37% approval rating he is doing nothing to make more people happy. He has done everything wrong, yet this is his second term. Clinton was impeached for sleeping around, yet Bush made so many mistakes that are way beyond mr. Clinton's, and nothing. Oh yeah, the quote... I love it the most. I don't care how much of an idiot my president is, but I will support him, because I am a republican. Where are we taking this nation? I predict a disaster.
