So long! (For now...)

Alright folks, I've got a few more things to pack and some last-minute blog posts to finish, but otherwise I'm all set for the big trip to Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. Fossil Butte, Dinosaur National Monument, Yellowstone, Grand Teton National Park, Craters of the Moon... it's going to be one hell of a vacation. At least I will have plenty to write about when I get back!

I won't return until late on August 30th, but I may pop in to share a few photos if I stop by somewhere that's wired. There will still be plenty going on here at Laelaps, though. I have scheduled a bunch of posts for while I am gone so keep checking back. See you in 17 days!

On August 14 I am going to be leaving on a two week trip to Utah, Wyoming, and Idaho. It will be my first trip out west, and I am really looking forward to seeing places like Fossil Butte, Grand Teton National Park, and Yellowstone. I will have my laptop with me, but obviously I will not be…
Okay. I've been back a week now, and am getting myself a little recombobulated, so now it's time to jump back in to blogging. Thanks for your patience while I've been offline. Our trip out west was phenomenal. As I've mentioned, my parents have a cabin north of Vancouver, and it's really the…
A lone female elk in the morning fog near Grizzly Lookout. I had heard one of the Hayden Valley wolf packs in this area just a few minutes before taking this photo. While traveling through Yellowstone National Park I was struck by the way in which the park's wilderness is being reshaped and…
The Scientiae theme for September is "my summer vacation." My first week of class started today, so perhaps this is a good way to remind myself of what I've done this summer. We had dinner early in May at a friend and colleague's house to acknowledge my husband's decision to step away from his…

Enjoy!

I can't wait to see what you post about upon your return.

All right! A fellow National Park traveler! If you see Arvid Aase at Fossil Butte, tell him Matt Brown says hi. Take the ferry across Jenny Lake at Teton and hike up to the waterfall. If you can't get a room at Old Faithful (and really you must), have dinner, spend the evening hanging out, watching the geyser, and having a Scotch, then sleep in your car in the parking lot. The bathrooms in the Lodge are in the hallways, that includes the showers.
