Various Stuff

Check this out, in no particular order:

1. I finally have stuff up on YouTube, two videos. Go watch them if you like. At the moment I'm competing with Sensei Chris Mooney for views and ratings....

2. For those who missed my Skeptics Society debate with Ron Bailey over who's worse when it comes to abusing science, you can order a copy here. This, I suspect, will not be on YouTube.

3. I appeared last week on Mother Jones radio, you can listen here. Here's a synopsis of what I talked about: "Republican War on Science author Chris Mooney tells us that it's time for scientists to publicly fight right-wing misinformation on science. He says many scientists have "ivory tower syndrome. They know people like themselves, and they communicate very well with people like themselves, but the great unwashed masses of the United States...they're like, 'Who are these weird people who don't get evolution, and what can we possibly say to them?' Well, they're our fellow Americans, and we're going to have to communicate with them eventually, or these rifts are never going to go away."

4. Al Gore is going to do a book called "The Assault on Reason." The meme is spreading....

5. Something called Capitol Reader has a "summary" of my book. Wouldn't it be nice if somebody were to order it, look at it, see if it's really accurate....

About to fly back to DC from Portland via LAX. No more blogging till that happens....

The silliness about Morgellons and Marc Neumann continues. This time around, it's someone sending me e-mail from Dr. Rolando Arafile's website. In my e-mail last night I found this gem: From: "Health2Fit" health@health2fit.net Subject: Violation Date: February 12, 2010 3:54:59 PM EST To: "Orac"…
I was surfing around the DNC site last night and came upon this nice addendum to yesterday's post: a series of videos about the Denver area narrated by a proud native and six-term Congresswoman Diana Degette (D-CO, 1st). I was reminded while going through 5280 magazine that Rep. Degette had…

I had the exact same thought when I heard the title of Al Gore's new book. It reminded me of a comment I made awhile back about how many of the themes in RWOS could be generalized to broader topics...

So how did your appearance at Reed College go? You haven't had much to say about Portland -- and you stopped here twice!
Glad I gota chance to meet you last Wednesday -- on my birthday no less. (And I am so NOT 29.)

Talk at Reed went great. Very good audience, very responsive, and somebody brought a dog, which I thought was extremely cool (you can do that at Reed). All in all, Portland gave me a lot of love, both at Reed and at Powell's. I'm very appreciative.

If I haven't said much about Portland events, it's just that I haven't had any good pics to post from any of these....

We were glad to have you.
