Hoping to see some Bald Eagles as I make the 80 plus mile drive from Seattle up to Bellingham today, in order to deliver this talk:

Village Books

Bellingham, WA 98225
I'm feeling a bit under the weather--to much masquerading about--but as long as I've got plenty of water I should still be able to speechify. Anyway I've never been to this part of the country before, so I'm really looking forward to it. Stop by if this is your area....

The 83rd edition of the Tar Heel Tavern, the blog carnival of NC blogging, is up on Poetic Acceptance.

If any Microsoft minions show up, you might want to ask them why Bill Gates contributes money to the Discovery Institute.
Good Evening, I am a scientist who was at your talk tonight in B-ham and just wanted to say, Good Job! But now that I read the previous comment I must ask, does Bill Gates really contribute to the DI?
The Gates Foundation has contributed about US$ 10 million to the Cascadia Project, a long-term transportation study of the Pacific northwest which is run by the Discovery Institute. The money is unrelated to the Intelligent Design advocacy of the DI's Center to remove Science from Culture.
He indeed does. The Discovery Institute also has a division that proports to study issues related to transportation and traffic congestion and that is the division that Gates helps to support. If the employees working in that division are as incompetent as the ones working on ID (a conclusion I would reach in the absence of contrary evidence), he's wasting his money.
