Today I head up to New York, where I'll be doing this event tomorrow. Then, tomorrow night, my brother and I are flying down to Brazil to attend his wedding. This will be my first ever trip to the Southern Hemisphere; and yeah, I know the water in the toilet or sink doesn't really rotate clockwise down there because of the earth's rotation--even though the winds of hurricanes certainly do. But I digress. The main point for this blog is that I have no idea what kind of web access I may have in Brazil, so I may not be able to post anything here before around August 14 or so....

Storms like last weekend's blizzard and widespread snowfall can happen, in theory, any winter, but large snowfall storms in the US Northeast have been significantly more common in recent years than in previous recorded history. Over the last few years we've seen these large snowfalls happen…
There are inevitably plenty of typos, but after the jump I've pasted in the transcript of my Science Friday conversation with NPR's Ira Flatow about hurricanes and global warming. Callers raised several interesting questions.

Hey Chris,
If you're going to São Paulo, i don't think you'll have trouble with Internet access. But i'm sure that you can find some high-speed connection in all the major cities.
I hope you enjoy the trip "down-down south" and get some time to visit some of the beautiful places that Brazil has, eg "Fernando de Noronha" or "Abrolhos".
[]'s.
Dude, if you go to Brazil and have enough free time to visit an internet cafe or whatever, you're doing something wrong. Hope you know how to dance -- or at least do so after some liquid courage!
Chris, look for "lan houses" - the name cybercafes go for down there.
You may note see the water rotation, but at least you will see the Southern Cross... :-)
Have a safe trip!

You lucky dog.
Chris, if you post this, we'll know you are hopelessly tied to the net.
You should be celebrating with your brother and checking out the sights, not the sites.
Now enjoy yourself!
