Laurie Zoloth

You will note that the event represents both the left and the right. It's this July 13-14. More information here.

The press covering the story of bioethicist Glenn McGee's departure from the post of director of the Alden March Bioethics Institute at Albany Medical College is hungry for an ironic twist. For example, Scientific American titles its article "An Unethical Ethicist?" What more fitting fall than…

First off, congratulations, this certainly reflects your accomplishment and stature in the realm of science and politics. Second off, though, I'm a bit confused about the event "representing both the left and the right." On a topic such as this, I'm not sure how those conventional political descriptors apply, but I did note one, and possibly three, individuals that I might consider less as serious academic/scholastic contributors and more as advocacy/preset agenda/public-relations-via-think-tank types. I could be oversensitized, but this, to me, detracts from the purpose of the event, in other words, I'm concerned that there's some kowtowing in order to achieve that notorious "balance."
