Lord Viscount Monckton of Benchley, it turns out, really is a "swivel-eyed maniac". Or at least it is a fair thing to say.
Some month's ago, George Monbiot wrote a bog post about our good friend Monckton that said Monckton has claimed, among other things:
⢠he has read the treaty that will be signed at Copenhagen next week. That's quite a feat of clairvoyance.
⢠The treaty says that "a world government is going to be created".
⢠Greenpeace is "about to impose a communist world government on the world" and President Obama, who sympathises with that aim, will sign up to it.
Monckton made a formal complaint to the UK's Press Complaints Commission about this blog post, denying these allegations, and it has been rejected.
Monbiot also raised this truly fascinating example of self-aggrandizing buffonery from an open letter Monckton sent to Senator John McCain [PDF]
[Lord Monckton's] contribution to the IPCC's Fourth Assessment Report in 2007 - the correction of a table inserted by IPCC bureaucrats that had overstated tenfold the observed contribution of the Greenland and West Antarctic ice sheets to sea-level rise - earned him the status of Nobel Peace Laureate. His Nobel prize pin, made of gold recovered from a physics experiment, was presented to him by the Emeritus Professor of Physics at the University of Rochester, New York, USA.
Everyone got that? He submitted a review comment to the IPCC, something literally anyone can do and thousands have done, and now claims he is a nobel laureate! And has a fake gold pin for himself to boot! As for whether or not his comment had any influence, I suppose his word on that is plenty good enough, right? And I have a mansion to sell you...
Apparently Monckton is an old hand at filing these complaints, having done so twice before. He is currently batting 0 for 3.

I can't believe how close I came to winning a nobel prize. Gutted. I doubt I will get a better opportunity.

Why would u expect the LIBERAL UK COMMISSION to approve Mockton's complaints?? Heck, this would confirm that the IPCC lies and temperature changing FRAUD to fit their agenda was correct and make them an impotent group.
The IPCC is a pawn of the UN. The global warming scam is all about money, power and UN control. Follow the money.
Last year Congress, let Al Gore testify on global warming issues, but shut the door in the face of Mockton. What were Gore and Congress afraid of? The truth. Also, to save Al Gore's bacon. Gore has done nothing but lied about global warming from the gitgo and his science has been completely refuted. Why won't Gore debate? U know the reason. He would loose miserably and the Gore lies would be exposed by the truth. Al Gore could not stand for that and the global warming cause would take a major hit in the eyes of the world.
Just like the current Energy/Climate bill introduced in the U.S. Senate last week. Lots of loop holes for big corporation who signed on and support the bill. The major polluters buy tax credits (Gore and Goldman Sach will make billion from tax credit purchases) and polluters get to keep on polluting. This is pure insanity. Again, all about money and control.
The polluters will get kickbacks from the increased fees (loop holes in bill and promised by Kerry and Liberman) and taxes slammed on the back of un-employeed Americans and the bill will do little to change the climate.
After reading the bill, how long will it take to implement the bill? Most of the bill is about forming committees and u know how that is in Congress.
Politics and big money are controlling the scam of global warming and I do not want to pay for something and end up with poor result and have my grandchildren to be in more debt.Safer to invest in the stock market. Lies of lies. Follow the money.

The best thing about the letter to McCain is that it's so long that nobody could be fooled into believing it might not be a waste of their time to read it.
"Follow the money" -- Monckton lied for money and then admitted it. Clear as day. Why is Steven Mason not swayed by this fact?

Monckton's (and Charles Windsor's) erratic behavior and evermore odd statements on climate change simply demonstrate how good an idea it has been, to remove power from hereditary types

Maurizio: Monckton doesn't really have any hereditary power. All he has is the title. Would fewer people pay attention to him if he didn't have the title? If the answer to that is yes, that scares me a little. Though the fact that anybody pays him any attention in the first place is already scary.

Like most people expressing opposition to the scientific observation, Steve Mason's real concern is policy, and more specifically policy that involves debt.
Better for all if he would suggest policy that would address both economics and observable facts.
Efficiency within any business- using less to achieve results- is just good business, yet industry is incredibly wasteful.
The same folk seem to have no issue with collectivizing the risks in extraction and shipment of foreign oil ( read %300 billion a year to keep the Straits of Hormuz open) and said debt. Or with having toxic effluents dumped into collective resources.
It might be sincere anger, but it is fueled by a narrow perspective of the full situation.
Relying on governments alone has been a weakness of those seeking to reinvent energy, building and transportation sectors. We need to pressure business leadership by demanding they address sustainability throughout their enterprises.

Now recall the ho-ha the denialosphere made over the PCC's judgement of the climate change adverts run in the UK - they were happy to accept the PCC's view then - none of them criticised it. So now the PCC has ruled that Monkton's claims of âworld government' are bunk are they still going to respect the PCC's judgement?
