Since I've been speaking and attending other people's presentations, I thought this video regarding how NOT to use Powerpoint is appropriate. Not only that, but it is funny, too -- do you recognize any speakers' techniques in this video? If so, tell me all about it -- I won't tell anyone else, I promise! [3:55]

Over at Effect Measure, Revere (or one of the Reveres, anyway, I'm not certain if they're plural or not) has posted another broadside against PowerPoint, calling it "the scourge of modern lecturing." This is something of a sensitive point for me, as I use PowerPoint for my lectures in the…
During my summer blogging break, I thought I'd repost of few of my "greatest hits" from my old blog, just so you all wouldn't miss me so much. This one is from October 10, 2008. It provoked a bit of angst out in the library student blogosphere, which is kinda what I was hoping.

This streaming video shows Edward Current's new contraption, where he exploits science to build a prayer amplifier, the PrayerMax5000. Edward says, "I have faith that with my new invention, praying to God will be effective and reliable, finally…
There's been an abundance of PowerPoint advice in the science blogosphere lately. Based on my personal experience, I'd say Chad and Amy give some good advice -- and it's advice that probably serves them well in their own presentations.

But what does it say about you if you use the Comic Sans font? :)
not sure, although my colleagues all hate it. but i actually LIKE comic sans better than helvetica! so what do you suppose that says about me??
I have never seen a really memorable presentation that involved the use of slideware.

By the way, the essay is well worth $7; the Tufte books are also well worth the price.
This is good, too:

Grrl - there are some things you just shouldn't admit in public.
I'm amused by the way the video quality also demonstrates why you should use large text on your slides. My one criticism of the speaker is that he didn't have a laser pointer, to play read-along-a-bullet-point.
thanks.

I'm afraid this is a clear sufficient criterion for lack of state in graphic design!
Helvetica is a beautiful character face. A documentary was made about it. Get it there: http://thepiratebay.org/torrent/3942788/Helvetica.A.Documentary.Film.by…
