Black-bellied (grey) plover, Pluvialis squatarola.
The photographer, a friend of mine, sent this image to me. This image was taken on a Florida trip a couple years ago when a Black-bellied Plover walked up to him while he was sitting on a beach. Luckily, he had his 180 lens on and was able to get this shot.

If you ask, as I did, you will discover
That some folks call this bird a "Plover";
Roughly half, the whole world over--
The other half? They call it "Plover."

The parent organization of a place I once interned at owned historic and natural properties throughout Massachusetts. I visited one of them, Crane Beach, north of Boston. It was allegedly a plover nesting ground. I'd just finished reading all about it and was pissed that I didn't see any, but my "I'm a plover lover" t-shirt remains a favorite, for its message, its softness and its pretty sage-green color.
