Charlton Heston, Ben Hur, friend to future apes, Moses, English King, has died at the age of 84.
In the words of Michael Levine, Heston's agent:
"If Hollywood had a Mt. Rushmore, Heston's face would be on it"
Here some footage of Heston getting stoned:
(... and meeting his ape-anthropologist girlfriend ... )

We dropped the atomic bomb on japan today (in 1945) and that caused a lot of changes in the world. The idea of a bomb like this was so outrageous that it was actually possible to keep the project secret even though thousands of people worked for months on it, at many different locations. In one…
Two sports posts in one day? They're going to revoke my membership in the Association of Intellectuals. But hey, college basketball is one of my great passions. ESPN has been discussing and debating who would go on the Mt. Rushmore of college basketball for both coaches and players during the ESPN…
On the way in to work, I was listening to ESPN radio's Mike & Mike show, and they were discussing "Mount Sportsmore," that is, the Mount Rushmore of sports. They had two of the four spots filled with Babe Ruth and Muhammed Ali, and were debating baseball players for the other two (which is…
I apologize in advance for the incredibly insensitive remark I am about to make on this, the occasion of the fine actor's passing. I just can't help myself.
Does this mean we can pry his rifle from his cold, dead hands now?
Somebody had to say it....
Unfortunately, the only images of Heston I can bring to mind are from Bowling for Columbine
Wait, wait. How is "Pry the gun from his cold dead hands" more off color than "His girlfriend was an ape.."
How about "Pry his ape girlfriend from his cold dead hands"?
"If Hollywood had a Mt. Rushmore, Heston's face would be on it"
But, why?
And, who else's face on this version of the Facial Mount?
Good riddens to the evil old fart. This just proves bad things happen to bad people. He was pure evil, and I'd love to be the one to pull the rifle from his cold dead hand.
Aaron:
Well, we can start with Charlie Chaplin, Douglas Fairbanks, and Mary Pickford for one... if they hadn't started UA, the studio system probably would never have come apart... You'd have to make room for Thomas Edison and Eddie Muybridge though. There'd be a lot of faces on that Rushmore.
David B:
I wouldn't go with "pure evil". He actually seems to have been a very complex man. At the very least, think Bester from Bab5.
David B.
Anyone who uses "pure evil" in the same line with a man who was one of the most out spoke proponents of Civil Rights risks ruining the the phrase "pure evil" and showing his armchair ignoramus status. Please, and if you ever feel like using Hitler in a phrase, stop, unless you are actually just talking about him or someone else who might truly be viewed as "pure evil" ie.. Stalin, Mao, Genghis Khan or Alexander (Not so) Great. He should be reviled not trivialized by bad comparisons. Just as Heston should be honored for being a complex man among mice, not trivialized by bad comparisons.
Griffin: my sentiments exactly. Heston was a contradiction (Cuvil Rights + guns) but so was JFK, Malcolm X(gun owner), King, and good ol' Daniel Shays( gun owner)... the left has a hard time comprehending the complexity in human choices, and looks at everything from polarized glasses, choosing selective heroes that embody polarization.
