A friend pointed out to me that the regular brown guys on bloggingheads.tv (Reihan Salam, and to a far lesser extent Ramesh Ponnuru and myself)
1) have names that start with "R"
2) lean Right

My friend Reihan Salam, the svengali behind The American Scene, is on blogginghead.tv talking about the primary races. Reihan often has a high signal to noise ratio in large part because of his low analysis to data ratio.1 He's chatting with Chris Hayes, who wrote up a really interesting piece on…
So a friend of mine started IMing me about how crazy the John McWhorter & Michael Behe diavlog was on bloggingheads.tv. I was a bit surprised since there is no such diavlog, either on the bloggingheads.tv website, nor in their podcasts (which is where I usually am made to be aware of them).…
Nothing is more excruciating to me than to see myself and hear myself. It's even worse when I'm up against someone who presents so much better than I do. So watch Paul Myers (I think that's how they spell his name) and me talk about Stuff at Bloggingheads.TV. The video is terrible (that's my fault…
Since the bloggingheads "diavlog" with David Dobbs and me was the first science-oriented installment to come out (more or less) since the repudiation of Bloggingheads.tv by Carl Zimmer and Sean Carrol, and now Phil Plait and PZ Myers, I think I should say something about why I did it and what I…
Does Reihan Salam really lean right? I know people, including himself, describe him as a "conservative", but I've listened to a several of his diavlogs and I do not recall him ever actually saying anything conservative or rightish.
Except on immigration, I haven't read anything so rightish from you either - and even on that, a lot of European social-democrats would tend to agree with you at leat in part (see Pim Fortuyn's success in the Netherlands). In fact, from your posts on religion and economics, one could easily get the idea that you're a bona fide liberal!
Don't know that Ponnuru guy, checking The Oracle...

*double blinks*
Ok. Now that's what I call "right-wing".
Obviously the Powers That Be at bloggingheads.tv are engaged in some sort of right-racial profiling.
Reihan seems like a smart, well-informed guy, but for some reason he's a self-professed neoconservative (at least when it comes to foreign policy). He's the only person I'm aware of who liked Kristol's NYT column.
a lot of people are confused about reihan. but if you pin him down, he will identify as conservative.

well, perhaps i'm a bit more *populist* when it comes to economics than i used to be. in any case, i don't post much about politics around these parts, as i don't have that much distinctive value to add.
What about John McWhorter & Glenn Loury? Neither starts with R, and only the former leans right, while both are more regular than Ramesh.

Those are black dudes with brown skin.
McWhorter also refers to himself as "conservative" with hand-quotes, denying that he is in fact one. He was actually more pro-Obama than Loury (a Hillary supporter). Loury has had an interesting intellectual history which I discuss here.
i'm talking about *brown*, not *black*, heads.
And r²= ?
