My call for ecology blogs went better than expected. I expected next to nothing, but I got more than nothing -- at least enough to consider it further away from nothing than next to it. Anyhow, I have compiled a list of blogs below the fold. They are grouped into those that deal with the science of ecology and those that deal with conservation, environmentalism, bird watching, etc. Some of the blogs were on the boarder between science and other, and I can't give a great explanation for how I decided where to put them. The order is somewhat arbitrary; it's the order in which I put toghether the list, which depended on from where I got the links and in what order they were presented to me.
If you would like to suggest an unlisted blog, add a note in the comments.
Ecology as Science:
-
ESA News & Views - Official blog of the Ecological Society of America
-
I'm a chordata, urochordata - Research blog by grad student at UC Davis
-
Luke Miller's Blog - Very rarely updated (and not since Oct 17) blog by intertidal ecologist
-
Invasive Species Weblog - Jennifer Jennifer Forman Orth's blog on invasive species (on the boarderline between ecology as science and applied ecology)
-
Bootstrap Analysis - Blog by urban ecologist (lots of bird watching, hopefully more ecology soon)
Conservation, Environmentalism, Bird Watching, etc:
-
Resilience Science - Blog by the Resilience Alliance (a consortium of ecologists and social scientists)
-
Shifting Baselines - Blog by film maker Randy Olson (A Flock of Dodos) on ocean conservation with a tilt toward new media and communications
-
Daily Mystery - Earth, community and sustainability
One last blog that should be an ecology blog, but currently is not: Salamander Candy. Those guys are molecular ecologists, but they don't seem to blog about ecology. C'mon guys, there's a niche to be filled. And even if there weren't, you've got the skillz to construct that niche.

A good one just folded today. Luckily, he is not deleting the blog so one can still search his archives for some good environmental science and ecology of water.

"on the borderline between ecology as science and applied ecology" actually describes me as well as my blog :-).
Found some more good reads from this list, thanks!
One that is promising but still a small blog, is Mon@rch's Nature blog. The blog's proprietor is a bird bander; currently the crew leader for a Monitoring Avian Productivity and Survivorship (MAPS) station; Principal Investigator in looking at the changing butterfly fauna in Allegany State Park, NY and the status and ecology of the Northern Saw-whet Owl in Allegany State Park, NY.

Although an excellent review of current and interesting science news items, Matt Dowling covers many ecology topics in this relatively new blog. He includes interesing film clips and a lot on ants.
It's nice to see so many great ecology blogs out there. Thanks for the listing RPM.
Jen (from http://infinitesphere.blogspot.com, a great ecology blog) and I are putting the final touches on Oekologie - http://oekologie.wordpress.com - an ecology and environmental science blog carnival. We're still in the process of setting up, but we are looking for hosts starting next March and on. The carnival itself will hopefully start by mid January or February.
Shameless plug, I know. I just thought that while we're on the subject...
Oh, and how could I forget Coffee and Conservationism - specifically concerned with habitat conservation (shade-grown coffee) in areas where North American migrant songbirds spend the winter.
Thanks for believing in us, RPM. I'd actually call myself an evolutionary biologist, or a geneticist, before pretending to be a real ecologist, but we can certainly do a little more ecology blogging. That's molecular ecology (as in DNA molecules), we don't know jack about, say, nutrient cycling.
Thanks for including ESA News and Views, the official ESA blog, in your list. ESA invites your comments and posts on all things ecological. Visit us at http://esa.org/esablog/.
Another shameless plug - my blog.
This one I just discovered last night and it looks like the real thing:

I'd like to volunteer my blog. It was also mentioned by the estimable postblogger on the previous post. I try to cover ecology and evolution in general, but I am particularly interested in macroecology - the search for large-scale patterns and generalities in nature, and their explanations. I do sometimes wander off-message and mention any other stuff that takes my eye, however.
I'd like to draw your attention to the Blog of the British Ecological Society. The Blog aims to increase the flow of information between scientists and policy makers. Any comments on the posts would be welcome.
Just stopping by to see which blogs made your list...this is a favorite of mine: http://monarchbfly.com/
Do not know if it fits the bill, but wanted to share.
