Three more days to get "Songs From the Science Frontier"!

We only have until midnight Saturday-- August 21st-- to get another $1,860 for an amazing project.

Songs From the Science Frontier

A different way to get kids excited about science. A way YOU can help reach kids everywhere, from East LA to rural Georgia-- anywhere kids might not be getting the best science education.

Monty put on a concert this Sunday for OKC Atheists (you know how lots of freethinker groups around the country are trying to get more women? more friendly to families? homosexuals? hehehe, OKC Atheists kinda rock at that :P we go to the bars one night and have a kids party the next day. W00T!!!)

It was really nice of him, and there was nothing but positive feedback on the event. For real, check out his blog-- look at all those pics of all those little ones learning about top tier science, inspired by real scientists... HOW CAN YOU NOT SUPPORT THAT??

And if you still need one more reason to donate a bit to this project, Monty has asked me to do a 'Born to do Science' event at the Stillwater Public Library. In other words, there might be an OFFICIAL ERV SONG in the future, thanks to Monty. I cant think of a way to make "HI KIDS! YOURE MADE OF VIRUSES!" not terrifying to children, so Id love to talk about the vaccine arm of my research, to teach them about vaccines, and why they are good (you think viruses are bad, but the viruses in vaccines are our friends-- the help us not get sick!).

I COULD HAVE A SONG ABOUT VIRUSES AND VACCINES BEING OUR FRIENDS, PEOPLE.

EDIT 8.30 am on Friday: YAAAAAY!!! FUNDED!!! Thanks in no small part to you guys! WHOOOOOOOOO!!!

WARBLEGARBLETHISISSOCOOLYALL! Where to start? You all are aware of the fact we have 'science education issues' here in Oklahoma? Well not everyone here is sitting on their hands, shaking their heads, bemoaning what a shame it is. A fellow who lives in Stillwater, Monty Harper, is actually trying…
Because I am a cliche absent minded scientist, I completely forgot that I had tickets to Austin City Limits this year, until my passes came in the mail like last week :-/ Like, I 'remembered', but I thought it was in October or something... I dunno what my brain was doing... Im too busy in the lab…
Only a couple days left to get Monty Harpers next science-songs-for-kids album funded! In case I have not made this clear in the past, I really appreciate Montys approach to exposing kids to science. He does not dumb things down. He demands that the scientists he works with do *not* dumb down their…
Monty Harper is an Oklahoma musician who writes/performs songs for kids with pro-science messages. You guys helped get his latest CD 'Songs from the Science Frontier' made, but what Monty is known for locally are the 'Born to Do Science' programs he organizes for the Stillwater Public Library! He…

I think kids would actually like finding out about being a big bunch of viruses a lot more than they'd want to hear about vaccines. Vaccines involve needles and visits to doctors which are much less fun.

I recognize lots of names on the supporters list-- I really do want to thank you all for supporting this. You all know I normally dont ask my readers to support much (actually, anything. this is the first time). And I know lots of you are students and retired folks... Im not joking I am tearing up a bit... Thank you, guys :)

I gotta think of something sweet to do for my readers for this...

No way -- I think a "HI KIDS! YOU'RE MADE OF VIRUSES!" song would absolutely rule.

I have to agree a song that says "HI KIDS! YOU'RE MADE OF VIRUSES!" would be teh awesome.

On a different topic: a proposed Pepsi blog causes uproar throughout science blogs, yet an ad currently running on the right of the blogs from www.dermitage.com showing a wrinkly woman magically regaining the fresh face of a teenager (notwithstanding the tiny, tiny disclaimer that this is not a typical result) gets not a mention from anyone? Curiouser and curiouser....

So glad he made it. I'm also looking forward to my signed cd.

A couple of us were pressuring him to do a song with you the other day at the park. I'm glad he got in contact with you about doing so.
