Mayon restless, but not heading towards eruption?

We had a brief bit over the weekend that Mayon in the Philippines had a number of small explosive events (less the one minute worth of activity). However, Philvolcs (Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology) is downplaying the idea that a major eruption is in the works. There have been a number of explosion-related seismic events and harmonic tremors, along with 12 mm of inflation on one side of the volcano (although over what time period the inflation occurred is not mentioned in the article). It appears that the Philvolcs scientists just think that magma is moving under the volcano, but an eruption is not imminent ... apparently things are just "abnormal" at Mayon.

Canlaon volcano, Philippines Geothermal energy is one of those sources of energy that might be able to solve a lot of the planet's energy problems - heck, the Earth has a lot of heat it is trying to get rid of, so taking that heat and turning into energy seems like an easy (and clean?) way to stop…
Sorry about the lack of posts - the holiday and "real life" had stepped in the way. On with the news! Mayon Volcano in the Philippines with Legazpi City in the foreground. Mayon, one of the most active volcanoes in the Philippines, is causing concern due to increasing signs of activity. Renato…
Two volcanoes on the island of Luzon look like they might be primed for activity, at least according to PHILVOLCS, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology. Both Mayon and Taal (above) are showing signs of increased seismicity. Only Mayon is actively steaming right now and the…

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (PHIVOLCS) has raised the alert status at Taal to Level 2 (of 4) and officials in the Philippines are getting ready if the volcano…

I just discovered your site, and I am impressed. Keep up the good work. I live about 9km from the center of the Mayon volcano and have a deep interest in it and all volcanoes.
