Afghanistan/Iraq/Israel/Palestine: crow on the cradle

My little ones now have little ones of their own, just barely out of their cradles. When this song was written, the prospect of global nuclear annihilation wasn't far fetched. Each side had massive overkill. There are still nuclear weapons so the threat isn't gone. But it's not a threat of nuclear winter. There are several reasons for this, including a world wide anti-nuclear movement. What would have happened had there been no opposition to nuclear weapons? I'm glad to say we'll never know. Unfortunately even without nuclear weapons the words of this song are still applicable to cradles rocking in Iraq or Afghanistan or Israel-Palestine. So there's still lots of work to do (hat tip reader C. Corax):

As badly as this missing explosives story has gone for the administration and their reporters, both reluctant and otherwise, I must confess to being more than a little surprised that Sandefur is still insisting that I somehow "jumped the gun" or "fell" for a false story. The evidence could not be…
Let me state something very clearly: I do not want a U.S. city (or any other city for that matter) wiped out by a nuclear bomb. Having said that, we the hawks among us have lost all sense of historical perspective when it comes to Iran. When you compare the Cold War to what ever it is that we…
It's been just over 5 years since the start of the Iraq war, and we've just passed another of those morbid little milestones that get so much attention in the press. This particular milestone has a nice round number on it - 4,000 - which apparently makes it somehow more important, or significant,…
