Randall Terry's Family Values

Recognize these folks?

It's Randall Terry and his family. The picture is taken from the mailers he sends out in his campaign for the State Senate in Florida. But it's missing two of his children, Jameil and Tila, both adopted. Why aren't they in the picture? Well, Jamiel is gay. And Tila had a baby out of wedlock. And we wouldn't want to spoil that image of a perfect family, would we? For that matter, there's no mention of the wife of 19 years he divorced only to marry his 22 year old personal assistant 7 months later either. Tell us all about your "family values" again, Randy.

In California, the first round of what will almost certainly be a long court battle over gay marriage has just wrapped up the trial phase. After the mayor of San Francisco began performing gay marriages last year (a bad, and politically motivated, idea), opponents of gay marriage appealed…
As Arizona ramps up its attempt to win national "America's stupidest laws" competition (hotly contested, admittedly) by prioritizing heterosexual married couples over gay people and singles for adoption, there's a lovely story about two gay fathers and their 12 children adopted from foster care:…
On the weekends, my four-year old daughter comes to work with me. There isn't much for her to do. She certainly isn't allowed in patient rooms. She doesn't help me make medical decisions. But we spend twenty minutes each way in the car laughing. We walk around the hospital, everyone greeting…
Today is my wedding anniversary. I've been married to the same woman for 31 years, without ever straying. Newt Gingrich has been married 3 times, divorced one wife while she was recovering from surgery, and has had extra-marital affairs. Guess who is considered the defender of traditional sexual…

I don't understand your problem with this. Everyone knows that this is exactly the sort of thing everyone means when they talk about family values: women are sex objects to be discarded when a better one comes along, gays are evil and should be cast into the outer darkness, and sex out of wedlock should be punished by stoning the woman to death. What could be clearer?

This seems like the typical political lifestyle. All that's missing is a dead prostitute and he'll win by a landslide!

Jamiel is gay.

Another one? Does someone have a scorecard on how many high-profile theoconservatives have gay children?

While Randall Terry is clearly a hypocritical sack of garbage, I'm not entirely comfortable with the story. Neil H's question is the reason:

Does someone have a scorecard on how many high-profile theoconservatives have gay children?

I get his point, but there's something unseemly in trying to identify gay people on any sort of list. If the gay child outs him/herself and the association to the hypocritical theocrat, then so be it. But, otherwise, I think we should leave such children alone. Unwanted attention can't possibly help what may be a difficult family situation.

Maybe the dead hooker was buried in a landslide. Of tar. In his backyard.

"Now, some have suggested that Randall Terry has a dead hooker buried in tar in his backyard, and I think Randall Terry needs to confront these allegations immediately or cast doubt on his whole candidacy." Any pundit, anywhere, anywhen.

Stogoe - Christ! You can't just randomly Coulterize people, unless you give a fair waring!

I spit water out of my nose and all over my keyboard...

At this point I think it could be "Several people have suggested that Randall Terry has..."

Tomorrow, "As most people realize, Randall Terry has several dead hookers burried...."

Randall Terry has also joined up with the Catholic Church, which used to be a bunch of doomed papists to him. How does he reconcile his new no-divorce-allowed religion with his divorce and remarriage? Easy! It merely requires a proper appreciation of dogma:

"There were tragic problems that were inherent to the marriage," said Terry. "According to Catholic doctrine as it has been taught to me, those problems made it an invalid sacrament." (National Catholic Register)

See? It was never even valid in the first place! And he didn't have to go through annulment hearings either. Praise be.

Look if the man ended his marriage he is entitled to do so, his ex-wife is better off without him. But what he has done to his children is much worse. He is their father for goodness sakes. Not only that but he is the grandfather of a child he apparently wants nothing to do with in his home.

Only religion can do this to people on so many different levels.

So let me get this straight...his daughter got pregnant out of wedlock, CHOSE NOT TO HAVE AN ABORTION, and he SHUNS her for it?

Oh, it gets worse than that, c tower. This girl was adopted by Terry after he talked her mother out of having an abortion. So when she gave birth, she gave it up to Terry for adoption (and kudos to him for adopting her). Then she ends up pregnant 20 years later and decides not to have an abortion, and he throws her out of his life. There's pretty much no lower boundary for how ridiculous this man can be.

The interest in the gay children of these 'luminaries' of the RR stems from looking at the irrationality of these parents towards gays in general. The psychological anger of the RR parent at the child is transferred onto gays in general and may motivate them to become active anti-gay rights supporters, for example.

"Does someone have a scorecard on how many high-profile theoconservatives have gay children?"

Almost makes one believe in karma. I'm waiting for one of the Bush twins to come out. ;-)

I'm waiting for the Bush twins to start popping out snowflake babies. They'd better get on it. There are a lot of embryos waiting to be adopted.

I'm waiting for both of the Bush twins to come out, it's not incest if it's non-penetrative, right?

But just so this post isn't labelled spam, trolling, flaming, whatever - I think what Randall Terry did is disgusting.
