Strange White House Aides

Think Progress has this list of the strangest White House jobs. Did you know that there was actually a White House Director of Lessons Learned? I didn't either. His name is Stuart Baker. And he makes $106,000 a year. Talk about your easy jobs.

While I wait for my copy of Dan Hurley's book, "Natural Causes: Death, Lies and Politics in America's Vitamin and Herbal Supplement Industry," it is interesting to read the media reports on his interviews and the responses from the dietary supplement industry. While the Natural Products Association…
I was just looking at the newly released Time Top Ten Space (science) Moments of the year. This is a little unfair, actually. The year is not over. Something could easily happen between now and January 1, 2013. Anyway, there are things on this list I didn't know, so I therefore assume that you…
Obama has finally gotten around to choosing a replacement for Larry Summers, and named Gene Sperling director of the National Economic Council (why he didn't prioritize this with nearly 10% U3 unemployment is puzzling). This has been controversial since Gene Sperling, like many of Obama's closest…

Fake jobs are as old as government. During the Washington administration congressmen employed newspaper editors with do-nothing jobs so that they could sit around all day trashing their political rivals.

Does Mr. Baker just sit at his desk all day and sleep, kind of like the old Maytag repair guy? I'm not sure he has, um, the most strenuous job in Washington these days.

I don't get it--easy jobs? I don't think so; these are damn difficult jobs. Lessons learned and ethics, why, it would be easier to teach your dog to play mandolin than to get the concept of ethics across to this administration.

I have two dogs(dalmatians)that I have taught to play the mandolin(did you know that Vivaldi has a concerto for TWO mandolins)? I think I may put in for this job.
