Noah's Ark Found - In Another Spot

Space.com reports on new satellite data showing that Noah's Ark might be on Ararat itself, hundreds of miles from the spot in Iran where Bob Cornuke says he found Noah's Ark. Maybe Noah wasn't the only one with that "build a big boat" idea?

The folks at Worldview Weekend are busily promoting the latest discovery of Noah's Ark. I say latest because, frankly, the Ark seems to be discovered every few years and yet people keep searching for it. Ron Wyatt claimed to have found it at Durupinar, in Eastern Turkey near Mt. Ararat, but that…
So Fox News breathlessly reported that Chinese researchers had found Noah's ark. "Has Noah's Ark been found on Turkish mountaintop?," they asked, dumbly. "No," answered slacktivist. Gawker replied at greater length: A group of evangelicals found some 4,800-year-old wood on top of Mount Ararat.…
Yesterday I made the offhand comment, "Say what you will about creationists, some of them have genuine critical thinking skills." I followed that up by adding "garbage in, garbage out." My meaning there may have been obscure, and commenter PhysioProf objected: Dude, I get that you are now fully…
One creationist claim that's commonly laughed at is this idea that 8 people could build a great big boat, big enough to hold all the 'kinds' of animals, and that those same 8 people were an adequate work force to maintain all those beasts for a year in a confined space on a storm-tossed ark. So the…

You know, that's a good point. You would kinda think that if people started noticing a regular guy building a giant friggen boat, that there would be some copy cats. And it's not like boats didn't exist at that time, so why couldn't other people use their own boats? Maybe god just flipped them over (i bet he chuckled when he did that, i would have chuckled).

But have they found Ziusudra's raft, yet? Maybe it and the Ark collided, and are right next to each other!

If I had a billion dollars, I'd totally rebuild Noah's Ark and cram a bunch of animals in it just to demonstrate the logistical impossibilities of the story. Did you know that there are 350,000 discovered species of beetles, and perhaps as many as 10 million total species? I guess you could argue that Noah only took a few species of beetles on the boat and then the rest of them appeared as a result of evolution, but the same people who believe in Noah's Ark think evolution is a myth. Go figure.

There are so many problems with the flood myth it is utterly ridiculous. A boat that size, made of wood, would snap its own keel under its weight. That much water, even coming out of the Earth (????), is simply impossible. The animals, even if they only count animals that humans normally raise and keep (which is one apologist response I've seen pretty regularly) wouldn't fit, Noah couldn't keep enough feed, and the dooky .... oh the dooky!

When you get into the history of the region, and note the inconsistencies in the flood story, you see that it is a combination of Egyptian and Babylonian flood myths.

So true. Here's a comparison of the Noachian flood myth with the much older Gilgamesh epic. I left a couple of lines blank in Gilgamesh to show the evolution of one story to the next -typically information gets added when literature evolves.

1. At the end of forty days
2. Noah opened the window he had made in the ark and released a raven,
3. Which flew back and forth as it waited for the waters to dry up on the earth
4. Then he released a dove to see whether the waters were receding from the earth
5. But the dove, finding nowhere to perch, returned to the ark, for there was water over the whole surface of the earth. Putting his hand out, he took hold of it and brought it back into the ark with him.
6. After waiting seven more days, he again released the dove from the ark.
7. In the evening the dove came back to him and there in his beak was a freshly-picked olive leaf! So Noah realized that the waters were receding from the earth.
8. After waiting seven more days, he released the dove and now it returned no more.

--Genesis 8:6-12

1. When the seventh day arrived,
2. I sent forth and set free a dove.
3. The dove went forth but came back since no resting place was visible, she turned around.
4. Then I set forth a swallow
5. The swallow went forth but came back, since no resting place for it was visible, she turned around.
6. .
7. .
8. I then set free a raven. The raven went forth and, seeing that the waters had diminished, he eats, circles, caws, and turns not around.

Well, it's just so simple to explain: Noah had a fleet of Arks. That little detail was left out of the Bible. I bet we find Arks on all of the big mountains in the Middle East!

If I had a billion dollars, I'd totally rebuild Noah's Ark...

If I had a billion dollars, I'd pay someone to haul the ruins of an old boat up the side of Mt. Ararat and bury most of it. Maybe I'd stick a Quran in it to be found when they unearthed the "find".

But then I'm a sick pup.
