We have happy birthdays to hand out for two of the good folks at the National Center for Science Education. Yesterday was the birthday of the NCSE's associate director Glenn Branch. And today is the birthday of information project director Wesley Elsberry. They are both really nice guys and Wesley in particular has, over the last few years, become a really good friend. After the very serious health problems he went through the last 2 years that nearly took him from us, today really is a day to celebrate. Happy Birthday, gentlemen. Next time I'm out your way, which I hope will be soon, the first round is on me.

Yesterday was a very good day for science education in the midwest. I wrote last week about ongoing controversies in Michigan and Ohio as advocates of intelligent design (ID) were trying to find a way, any way, to weaken science education and open the door at least a crack for the introduction of…
I spent a great day yesterday visiting with old friends in two different shifts. First, I went down to MSU to spend a few hours with my old friends Will and Biza, who are brother and sister and in some ways like a little brother and sister to me. Truthfully, this party is also a wake, because Jordan is closing up shop tonight and has invited everyone over (that means you, too…
I noticed in my new Working Assets prospectus that the NCSE has been selected as one of the recipients of the targeted support funds for 2006. This is a nice birthday present for the organization as honors the work of these two gentlemen (and you as well Ed).
spyder-
Hey, that's great news. The NCSE can use all the funding they can get. Their budget is absolutely dwarfed by the Discovery Institute.
Happy birthday!
Thanks, everybody! And you shoulda seen the cake... chocolate layer cake, vanilla icing, and milk chocolate shavings. Scrumptious. We had a nice break with the NCSE staff around the meeting table. Nina even came up with a birthday candle for each of us.
