Okay, I didn't see Bill O'Reilly's appearance on the David Letterman show two nights ago, but I did see O'Reilly whining about it on his show last night and I frankly laughed my ass off. Apparently Letterman told him that he thinks about 60% of what he says is crap, which strikes me as a tad too low, and O'Reilly apparently spent all afternoon on his radio show posing about it and then virtually his whole TV show as well. First he had Juan Williams (when did he sign a contract requiring him to kiss O'Reilly's ass?) and Jeanne Wolf (good lord, why?) on to talk about it.
Williams dutifully told him how terribly unfair the whole thing was, and did such a good job that I was waiting for him to reach out and give ol' Bill a hug. Jeanne Wolf sat there and did Jeanne Wolf things, sounding for all the world like a barbie doll on PCP. And as if that segment wasn't enough, he brought Newt Gingrich on and asked him what he thought of Letterman's behavior. It all reminded me of the old SNL sketch with Jon Lovitz as Harvey Firestein on a talk show, where every interview was really about him. It finished with Harvey shouting, "I just wanna be loved, is that so wrong?" Jesus, Bill, get over yourself.

The most funny part was when O´Reilly expressed his dismay for the fact that "young people get their political opinions from entertainers"...of course, not LIKE HIMSELF!
I've been confused about Juan Williams' demeanor on Fox for a while. I've always liked Juan and enjoyed his work on NPR. The guy has been around for a long time between NPR and the Post and has solid credentials. Why does he feel the need to kiss O'Reilly's ass (which he is called upon to do frequently)? He does the same sort of thing when he is on "Fox News Sunday with Tony Snow." He's very meek and deferential and I don't understand why. Fox must be paying him lots of money.
As for O'Reilly, I honestly think he is doing a great job nowadays of really turning himself into a cartoon.
Wow, Letterman must really have hit a nerve, to make poor Billy spend THAT much time whining about how unfairly he was treated.
I'm amazed that O'Reilly has so little sense of shame or self-respect, to go on like that without worrying about sounding like a crybaby.
And the real irony of it is, he really didn't sound THAT bad on Letterman's show! It's not like Letterman had time to really expose the stupidity of much of what Billy has said, or in any way give him that much to whine about. I wonder how much it would have hurt if Letterman had actually gone beyond saying "I don't believe there's a war on Christmas" and actually described O'Reilly's specific lies on the subject.
That was Bill O'Reilly four years ago. He's right once in a while, apparently. Link

Oh that is classic. Absolutely perfect. Thanks for the link. I'm gonna post that up top.
