Jefferson and Christianity

There is an interesting exchange on Jefferson and Christianity going on in the neighborhood, which I think was kicked off by Jon Rowe's fisking of a very bad article the other day that included what appears to be a fake quote from Jefferson. Sandefur picked up on the discussion of the Jefferson quote with this post. Then Jason Kuznicki posted about it here and here. And so did Paul Musgrave and Caleb McDaniel. The only one I wasn't familiar with in that was the last one, and how on earth did Caleb manage to escape my notice all this time? He writes about history, religion, and jazz - the holy trinity, in my book. Definitely one I need to read more often.

A bit of an argument has erupted among my closest blog neighbors over the question of gay marriage and polygamy. It began with Jon Rowe's post last month in which he argued that the arguments for gay marriage do not necessarily lead logically to the acceptance of polygamous marriages. Jon was not…
I've often said that the most gratifying thing about blogging is the sense of community that develops, as though each blog is a house in a neighborhood and the neighborhood is full of interesting people. In my blog neighborhood, as I perceive it, there are three houses that have stood out to me…
The first is from Andrew Sullivan, an article on how the red state/blue state division is largely one of those who talk the talk and those who walk the walk. The red states talk about morality and "family values", but the blue states tend to actually put those values into practice far more often:…
I remember in the last couple years, it was announced that Paul Rodgers was going to join Queen to replace Freddy Mercury. Jon Rowe and Jason Kuznicki both posted on it, with Jon being mildly cautious about it and Jason calling the idea "insane". I recall at the time thinking that Jason was closer…

The "next" link for this post is busted; it points way back into the archive so I found myself reading in circles. Thanks for the effort in writing and producing such an educational and entertaining site.

Never mind; it seems to have fixed itself. If you feel like saving me embarrassment you can delete both my comments here.

Caleb is also a real-life friend of mine. We don't always see eye to eye, but I've been promoting his blog whenever the chance arises. He writes good stuff, and it would be better if bloggers of all political stripes shared his probity and inquiring spirit.

Jim-
I think that's a joke. Did you intend it to be or did you take it seriously?

Thanks, Ed and Jason, for the kind words. You've saved me from shameless self-promotion by shamelessly promoting me yourselves! I'm obliged.
