Browser Share: Firefox pwns Microsoft

Speaking
of open-source software, I recall posting a while back when
the percentage of visits to Corpus Callosum, by users of Internet
Explorer, dropped below 50%.

Now, it is 24%.  Roughly parallels President Bush's approval
rating.  I wonder what those two stats would look like on a
graph over time.

Well, you crash your server with requests for free software, don't you? Hopefully I'm not adding to the problem, but Codeweavers offered a free copy of their *nix and Mac OS X WINE-based Windows emulator CrossOver, which needs no copy of Windows unlike the other virtualisers I have (Parallels and…
In June, I put up a post noting that open-source browsers accounted for more than 50% of the hits at ScienceBlogs.  At that time, Firefox was 48.17%.  Since then, Microsoft released IE7, which includes a tabbed interface, and other enhancements that Firefox (and others, e.g. Opera and Safari) have…

This is an archived post from October 2005. It is one of my more whimsical entries, but it does have aserious intent. The recent National Geographic film, title="Official movie website" href="http://wip.warnerbros.com/marchofthepenguins/">March of the Penguins, has generated a tremendous…

My money says Corkscrew is onto something.

Interesting. I just looked at the stats for my own blog and see the IE usage has been dropping steadily throughout this year. In January it was 31%. This month it is running just 23%. Over the last week, it is only 11%.

I sort of wonder if people installed IE7, decided they did not like it, found out it wa a pain in the neck to revert to IE6, so decided to try Firefox. As long as you have to go through the trouble to learn a new interface, you may as well switch to the better product.
