The big Pharma news of the day is that Pzifer is marketing 
(Slentrol®),
a drug to help obese dogs lose weight.

Dirlotapide, also known as N-{(1S)-2-[benzyl(methyl)amino]-

2-oxo-1-phenylethyl}-1-methyl-5-[4'-(trifluoromethyl)biphenyl-

2-carboxamido]-1H-indol-2-carboxamide, is definitely not recommended
for humans:

ROCKVILLE, Md., Jan. 5 -- The FDA approved a diet drug today that it
wants no one to even consider taking. Slentrol (dirlotapide), is an
obesity agent for dogs, with nasty side effects if humans try it.



Slentrol, aimed at dogs that are at least 20% over ideal weight, will
carry special warnings about its side effects when used by humans,
starting with "not for use in humans."



The FDA also warned that humans who consume
Slentrol may suffer
abdominal distention, abdominal pain, diarrhea, flatulence, headache,
nausea, and vomiting. [emphasis added]



Stephen Sundlof, D.V.M., Ph.D., director of FDA's Center for Veterinary
Medicine, said Slentrol is a "welcome addition to animal therapies,
because dog obesity appears to be increasing."...



Again, we see pharmaceutical companies producing something we don't
really need.  



What we really need, is a drug for fat iguanas:

OK, is it just me or does Drugs for Fat Dogs sound like a band name?

Actually that iggy's not fat at all. They carry their weight mostly in their tails, and to some degree in their hind legs. That one's too scrawny to be good eatin'.

(Obligatory disclaimer: I shared several years of my life with a couple of adopted/rescued adult male iguanas, and enjoyed their company quite a lot. I've never eaten iguana, nor do I intend to)
