I'm waiting to hear about jobs I've applied for in Norway and the UK. I'm waiting for responses to a few funding applications. I'm waiting for the snow to melt and the start of fieldwork season.
Dear Reader, what are you waiting for?

My professional goal since undergraduate days 20 years ago has been to divide my working hours between indoor research, fieldwork and teaching. And so I applied for my first academic job in June of 2003, shortly before my thesis defence. When I saw the list of applicants (this stuff is public in…
Well, you know my answer when you see that I am more than a week late with this post on the 15 June question.
How is it that all the PIs (Tara, PZ, Orac et al.), various grad students, post-docs, etc. find time to fulfill their primary objectives (day jobs) and blog so prolifically?
Priorities…
Dear Reader, I've just passed a lovely hour skiing on the golf course, and I am very happy.
It's -6 centigrade, loads of snow and Mr Sun is shining from a blue sky, accompanied by his pale-countenanced Sister Moon. People and dogs were out in force and we all smiled at each other as we met in the…
I've headed my own research excavations since 1996. Now I'm preparing for four weeks of fieldwork during the upcoming season. I operate as an independent scholar in this context, and none of my excavations have been prompted by land development. Here's what I need to get hold of before I can break…
I have been waiting for Scienceblogs to come back on line, but it seems the wait is over now, hooray!
If it happens again, hit http://reader.google.com and you'll be fine (though probably unable to comment).
I am waiting for the golf courses to turn green so I can play again here in the southest of Sweden.
I am also waiting for a professional archeological verdict about some observations I have made about Kämpinge old village and Bollmers högar. It is iron age and bronse age sites.
To whom did you report your observations?
To Sven R at the museum of Foteviken. It is discussions about what you can see from a public 3d map like hitta. Regarding Kämpinge I pass there several times a week and have walked in the area.
I'm waiting to hear from the hospitals that I applied for internships (AT) with. One interview so far, think it went OK but definitely did not ace it.
Also waiting to get over this nasty break-up already.
I don't know where you are Simon, but spring is coming to the northern temperate zone and juices will shortly be flowing. You'll have somebody new to think about soon. (-;
I am waiting to hear from a publisher, something I never waited for before, some I am a bit vague about how this sort of waiting goes.
Intuitively, publishing archaeology sounds like a quite a long wait, certainly, longer than something on particle physics, or aviation, although I have never experienced waiting for either of these, as I don't travel much.
I am waiting for the butter to soften so I can make grilled cheese sandwiches.
I waiting to find out what you think about this CNN article:
http://news.sciencemag.org/scienceinsider/2011/03/smithsonian-shipwreck…
oops, I mean sciencemag article... my bad.
Mike, you could keep your butter in the freezer and slice it with a cheese slicer.
Woodstein, if I were in charge of a museum I wouldn't touch stuff like that with a ten-parsec pole. That shit is still legal in some countries, but we in the West shouldn't support profit-driven exploitation of the archaeological record anywhere.
I'm waiting for the Main-Stream Media to stop promoting pseudo-food as something you should actually feed to your children... Mc-Wendy-Kings is NOT food!!!
@ Martin
"a ten-parsec pole" tremendous - LOL as my children might say.
Spring! Vegetable time! I'm waiting for it to stop raining on the 49th parallel long enough to plant in the garden.
I'm waiting for a trip to Spain to stand on castle ruins, for a paper to be finished and another one to be out, and for spring, as you observe, to bring some new people my way. Good luck with the applications! May the maximally compatible arrangement of them come up!
Hamster, yes, gardening is after all a form of archaeological fieldwork. (-;
Jon, thank you! And good luck with the ladies.
I'm waiting on graduation. :) And then I'll be waiting to hear from grad schools. So much waiting...
@Woodstein: I saw that yesterday, I think. I agree with Martin: that stuff shouldn't be touched.
I am waiting for the horror stories to stop coming from Japan and Libya. My TV set died last week, but I have not bothered to get a new one yet. I need a filter for the worst stuff.
Aaand now I am waiting for the sudden snowfall to subside so I can go home. Naturally, it started just before I was leaving (Sod's Law aka Murphy's Law).
Sod's Law? Are we talking about that rectal peat douche again? (-;
Naah, the "Sverigedemokraterna" xenophobes have used up all the peat douches in the county!
BTW here is a song while you are waiting for springtime to consolidate itself.
(From Jonathan L. Howardâs novel âJohannes Cabal the Necromancer âa devilishly thrilling comic fantasyâ
âCabal dimly recalled that the musical genius who had decided to put on âNecronomicon: The Musicalâ had got everything he deserved: Money, fame and torn to pieces by an invisible monster.â
(here is the 1st verse of the masterpiece:)
"Big Squidhead lies a-sleeping at the bottom of the sea,
And one day, when the stars are right, heâll wake up presently,
And then may wipe us all out, which sounds worrying to me,
While the Tcho-Tcho sing this songâ¦
Aie! Ftagn! Ftagn! Chtulhu!
Cosmic horror coming to you,
The Old Ones are back now with a view to
Sucking out your brains."
